Don't reward this behavior by allowing yourself to be drawn into an argument with that person. Do not allow him or her to bring you to tears. Do not engage. Try to have a sense of humor.
Do not allow ranting first thing in the morning, right before bed or at mealtime. If it doesn't stop during meals, quietly walk out of the room. The bathroom is often your best refuge. Don't dignify taunting or bullying with an answer or any attention. Save your anger up for a while and let out one really nasty verbal blast (be sure to ask why they are harrassing you) - after you can't take it any more. If it is your husband, wife or lover, withdraw from sex for a week. If it is a parent or sibling, ignore them, stay calm and let them wonder why they are not affecting you. If it is your child ignore them and show compassion. Try to find out what is causing the behavior, but do not leave then an open-ended chance to torture you more.
Withdraw into a book, a movie, your iPod, your work, into the other room, into the bathroom. Don't attack back, just fade out. Also have a lot of compassion for this person, because they are hurting, but do not be overly nice to them by doing a lot of extra stuff for them.
Go out fo the house for a while and don't offer any explanations.
Imagine yourself wrapped in the wings of a protective guardian angel, who is helping you deflect all the crap your nemesis is trying to pour onto you. The crap is deflected and you are protected! Do something nice for yourself, that does not include this person.
If it is an alcohol or drug issue, read up on it. If it is physical abuse get help!
Always remember you are not alone. You are loved and you are valuable.

try to put your mind in a peaceful place and sort of diconnect yourself from the pain...its hard to do and takes a lot of practice but eventually you get better at it but if the pain is really bad it still is there. i try to offer it up as a sacrifice to my Wife or keep in mind what things i have done to deserve what i am recieving and how my general place in life makes me deserve this treatment. There are no real answers that i can give You except to work with your mind to see what works for you and keeps the pain to a managable level. Panic is bad. Also hope the one torturing you has an idea of your complete breaking point
