I have a herniated disc in the L4-5 area, the doctors have already used injections twice. The pain at times is almost unbarable and walking is almost impossible.

I feel your pain, having 3 myself. Depending on when your injury occured, strengthening the abs lessens the pain a lot. You cuold also get one of those big exercise balls and lay on it, WOW, it really helps. Also, try not to sit for long periods of time, and go see a massage therapist!!!!

Has your doctor mentioned steroids? They reduce the swelling and can be used for short-term pain management.

EDIT: I had a herniated disc in the same area, so I feel your pain. It's like someone inserted a barbed hot poker from my hip to the bottom of my foot! The only cure for me was staying pretty much off my feet for eight months. Surgery was an option, but not for me, though I've heard that it's now minimally invasive.

Good luck!

Take something against the pain - and go for a manual one-time treatment called Atlasprofilax. The effect is, that the pressure on your discs is distributed much better - and the disc can really recover.

Just - the treatment is available in California and Europe only, costing approx. 220 dollars. It's really worth travelling far.

I had the same problem but mine were L3 and L4 my doctor sent me to a specialist and he had me in surgery within the next week. After my surgery, i now feel so much better i dont hurt anymore. my only limitations is i cant ever lift anything over 50 pounds. if i had it to do over again i wouldnt think twice about it. i only wish i had done this years ago when my pain first started. NO regrets what so ever. Good Luck!!!!!

My husband finally resorted to having surgery. It was successful, and he's basically pain free.
