you have to slowly introduce them,or you could have big problems.give them time to get used to each other and they should be getting along in a week or two,but don't rush things, because that makes things worse..good luck..

It will be pretty hard, the cat has been the king/queen of the house for a long time! I would give them time to get to know each other, and DISCIPLINE when they act badly (use a spray water bottle on the one acting aggresively, or if something has escalated, use a can with coins inside: shake it up and the noise will rattle them completely). Make sure that their bowls are kept far away from each other's, because they will both be very protective of that. Encourage them with treats and praise when they are the slightest bit accepting of each other, and so on.

I just got a puppy too, and my cat has been here four years.

Don't ever force them together. Let them discover each other on their own. Most likely, the cat will want nothing to do with him. Hope wants nothing to do with Patches, and she never warmed up to Sandy either. If they hiss and such, let them be unless they're in a position where one might get hurt. If the dog is smaller than the cat at the present, let the cat whop him with a paw to let him know to not mess with her.

You cant "make" them be friends...they either will or they wont....just let the dog in the house and leave them be. If they like each other...they'll bond...if not...you might have some massive fighting going on lol.

Just let them take their time in getting to know each other. If they do it on their own time they will become great friends. If you force it or try to stop them if they get in a little tiff they may never become friends
