Hello,

There isn't a fast way to learn Tagalog or any language, that is the honest truth. But you can structure your work so you'll cover a bit at a time and before you know it you'll be an intermediate speaker.

Here are some free pointers, i mean books and internet sources that you can try for some free lessons.

1.http://www.seasite.niu.edu/tagalog/
2.http://www.tagalog1.com/Outline.jsp

Below are some books that are good for learning Tagalog.

1.Tagalog made nice and easy
2.Basic Tagalog, for non-Tagalog and foreigners
3.Making out in Tagalog
4.Lonely Planet Tagalog phrasebook
5.Conversational Tagalog: A Functional-Situational Approach
by Teresita V. Ramos, is a basic introduction to Tagalog. Introduces a range of vocabulary and phrases, and includes plenty of notes of grammar.

6.Teach Yourself Tagalog: Complete Course
by Cora Castle and Laurence McGonnell, is an introduction to spoken and written Tagalog. Includes a course book containing dialogues, grammatical notes, exercises and cultural information, together with a CD with recordings of some of the dialogues and exercises

7.Talk Now! Learn Tagalog
by Eurotalk this is a basic introduction to Tagalog. Includes dialogues, exercises, games, tests and notes. This is a software program not a book.

8.Tagalog-English/English-Tagalog Standard Dictionary
by Carl R.Galvez Rubino

Also when you have a basic ground of Tagalog, you can pick-up some words they are saying.

Mabuting kapalaran! <----Good luck!

Learn To Speak Tagalog Easiest!

Go to a philippines translation site. Maybe if you go to translations.com or search tagalog or philippines, you will come across something. My stepmom is from the Philippines and so is my Aunty. They speak tagalog to eachother all the time and I can never get what they are saying. My Aunty said that there are so many different variations of tagalog, that you would have to choose which kind you want to learn. Just like the french in Quebec is different fro the french is France, tagalog would be different in almost every village, town and city. Sorry if I didn't help any. Good Luck!

For native English speaker or if English is already your second language, you may want to start with TagLish (Tagalog and English) because it will be MUCH MUCH easier to start conversing with Tagalog speakers. If being able to converse is all your after (aside from maybe writing poems in Tagalog) then you may want to stop there.

Taglish is used I say 98% in every conversation. Honestly, you cant hold a five minute conversation with a native Tagalog speaker without English getting into the mix. You could if you want sound weird, like reading Shakespeare out loud but in Tagalog.

When learning Taglish you can easily understand structures like

The ball is round - Ang ball ay round.

Pretty obvious what 'ang' and 'ay' stands for right? You got the structure then you learn some vocabulary like ball is 'bola' and round is 'bilog' in Tagalog. Substitute that and you have a full Tagalog sentence. Easy as pie!

And with a few structures like Mag + verb/noun + tayo, 'mag' is like 'lets' or 'go for' and 'tayo' means we or us.

Mag shopping tayo - Let's go shopping.

Mag walk tayo - Let's take a walk.

Mag dinner tayo - Let's have dinner

Now replace 'tayo' with the different Tagalog pronouns for I, me, you, she, he, they, them, it, etc.. and you have a lot of things you can say to a Tagalog speaker. again improve your vocabulary so you can substitute the Tagalog verb or noun.

This is best way to learn to converse with Filipinos and the easiest way because you already know half of it, the English part of the Taglish :) and the most important reason is it is the most practical way because this is how Filipinos talk. Look it up in Wikipedia, the national language of the Philippines is not Tagalog, it is English and Filipino. Filipino is the aggregate of all major dialects, Tagalog, Bisaya, Kapampangan, etc.. of which Tagalog is the most prominent.

Full disclosure this is my app and it teaches Taglish.

And I built that app specifically because I feel bad for all the foreigners trying to learn our language sounding like a Filipino Shakespeare.

P.S. If you sound like Shakespeare NO ONE will tell you, they are too polite.
