Alrighty then, I am a 17 year old male. Born to the parents of Laura and Elijah.

Now then, picture this hypothetical situation if you'd be so kind. A mother demands her son to mowe(SP) the lawn on a crisp Sunday. Yet the commandment states that one shall honor the Sabbath and keep it Holy..at the same time if the boy refuses this demand, he will be breaking the other commandment, "Honor thy parents..."

The mother is not a Christian nor will she change her ways. Will the son lose either way regardless of his decision?

First, the boy would be absolutely in the clear as the Sabbath is Saturday and not Sunday. Second, it is more important to honor the Heavenly Father than our earthly father or mother. The most important command is to love God.

First of all the Sabbath day is Saturday and not Sunday. The Catholic Church adopted Sunday as the Sabbath a long time ago even though it is against Biblical teaching. They did it to win converts from pagan sun worshipping religions. The pagans worshipped the sun god on Sunday. Second, if you are sincere about your beliefs and want to do what is right you should honor your parents by sitting down and talking with them about how you want to do the work that they want you to do. But you also want to remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy. Tell them that you will mow the lawn, and do all other house hold chores any of the other 6 days of the week but not that one. The honor them by keeping your word. By the way sometimes work has to be done and sometimes it is on the Sabbath Day. Jesus was criticized for what he did on the Sabbath in Matthew Chapter 12. Read it and you will understand.

Just because you are doing work on a Sunday does not mean that you are not keeping it holy. Honor your parents and mow the yard. The next time the yard needs mowing, do it on a Saturday without being asked, After you are through get busy doing some other things that you could help out with around the house. Get up Sunday morning and go to church. You will win each way. God Bless.

First of all; the Sabbath is everyday (read the bible and you’ll understand what I mean) technically Saturday is the Sabbath. Next are you trying to use the Bible to get out of working? Trust me the boy will not go to hell for working on a Sabbath be it Saturday or Sunday. Get a Strong’s concordance and look up the word Sabbath. You’ll be a lot happier for doing so. Hello there! I'm a 16-year-old female. And the answer is... no.

First of all, the "Sabbath Day" is different from the "Lord's Day"... Sabbath is the last day of the week -Saturday- and the Lord's Day is the day we give to Him out of our week to study/go to church etc.

Second, "Honor thy Father and Mother..." means more of a "doing what they would be pleased with even if there's hardly a chance you'll be caught". I believe that you meant "Children, obey your parents...".

Anyway, put these two together, and, it looks like you'll be mowing the lawn on Sundays again. (and if she tells you to mow on Saturday, let her know your beliefs. If she still insists, well, I think God would understand. He's like that, ya know.)

There are so many religions out there.. each one has a different day for there Sunday. but if you parents are not born again. that is going to put conflict on you and your mom. so if you can talk to her to comprimise with her tell her you'd perfer to do it onanothe r day .but that you will do it . AND DON'T go back on your word.because the the commandment of honor your father & mother comes forth. i'm born christian and a mother . so i know what you are going through cause my husband is not christian.

I do believe the Pharisees asked Jesus some similar questions when thay were trying to discredit Him. Obey your mother. Jesus tells us that He did not come to enforce the law, but to fulfill it. Also, talk to your mother and tell her how you feel, then tell her that because you love and honor her you will obey her; your behavior in your home may be key to her spirituality and that is a bigger responsibility than worrying about mowing the grass on sunday. Live your beliefs and she will see you doing so. Besides we all have to get our oxen and asses out of the ditch sometime.
God Bless you and your family.

Tell Son, you are to Honor your parents in all things for this is right before the Lord. Do what your parents say. Your honoring them might win them to Christ. You can't keep all the commandments this is the purpose for Jesus Christ coming into the world.

1. of course Sunday is not the Sabboth day

2. with the new testement we are not to honor one day over another ( doing away with the old system of legalistic view)

3. Even if it was the Sabboth, we are to honor it, it does not say you can't work on it, or mow on it, or do what you are told on Sunday.

4. Next even if your mother is not a Chrsitian, you are stll to honor her.

So mow the yard

Were you honoring the sabbath in everything you did that day...or just in getting out of chores? I think even Jesus would have taken the opportunity to witness with his actions rather than rebellion. God knows your heart and your motives. ...."and the greatest of these is LOVE..." (Ten Commandments) Love your mother by obeying her and servitude.
