I have a Golden Retriever and comb him daily, if not every-other day with a flea comb. It seems to get more hair out than just a regular bristle brush. But, I haven't seen him shed 'buckets' of hair. When I comb him I get 2-3 good handfuls of hair each day or so. If you're seeing a lot more than that coming off your Golden, then I would call the vet just to see what they have to say. Better to be safe than sorry.

I have a Golden and I know exactly what you are going through. I took her and had her bathed and trimmed. I am not shaving her as she will shed again when it comes in. Generally this breed is going to shed year round according to every book I have ever read about them.

I was told in our puppy classes that if you brush them once a day, brushing backwards instead of fowards that most of the loose hair would come off that way. I can tell you from experience that it is much better to do this outside.

Good luck to you!

if you want to do it at home... you need these things; undercoat rake medium size, and a metal comb. use the rake first then go over the dog with the metal comb. your best bet is to take the dog to a grooming salon, they can blow out the undercoat, which is what sheds, with a high powered blow dryer. then it will make it more managable for you to do at home. you should get your dog professionaly groomed at least 3 times a year. good luck NEVER SHAVE A DOUBLE COATED DOG LIKE A GOLDEN. 8 out of 10 cases the dogs hair will look horrible when it grows back. also there is a high risk of sun burns and skin problems that can occur.

I grew up with a golden- I vaccumed hair twice a day. They just shed a ton this time of year to get rid of their winter coat. You can try putting oil (olive or vegetable) in his food- this helps treat the skin and decrease shedding. A tablespoon of peanut butter a day will help too. you can also check out "Shed Ease"- you can get it at a pet store- it helps them shed less.

Take your dog outside and brush him everyday- thqt will help. You can also shave the dog down but most dogs actually need their coats to keep them cool and protect them from sunburn- talk to your vet first.
If you see any raw spots- your dog may have fleas or hot spots- talk to your vet if you see that- otherwise, lots of shedding is normal. In fact, my labbies belly has no hair on it!

I have a retriever and she sheds quite a bit too, but the things that has helped is make sure that you are brushing ALOT! And the second is go to your local pet store and get some fish oil, pour a little in their food and that helps build a strong caot and less shedding. It also helps them digest better...less poop!

He could be shedding his winter coat. Try combing or brushing him every day to remove dead and loose hair. And at Target there is also this special shampoo that helps to reduce shedding

you should take a sticky roller to take all the hair out with..you cant really do anything about shedding hair because thats how a golden retriever is naturally, they are always shedding..

He is shedding his winter coat. You could have him shaved. It will grow back okay. Or just do lots and lots of brushing. My daughter has 2 goldens and I do know they shed excessively!

Brush it. It is that time of year. You can get a professional grooming brush at most pet stores, or take it to a groomer to de-shed it.

Try and brush his hair often as this helps with hair around the house and give them fish oil. This can be bought at anyplace that sells vitamins.
