I'm going through the exact same thing. I started with the guest list. This will help you determine the size, location, amount of food, etc.
After the guest list we decided on a theme (it's our daughter's golden birthday so we're going to do all gold & silver). Then think about where you want to have it. If you have a big enough yard, it's fairly reasonable to rent a tent & some banquet tables.
We're going with simple food, BBQ & cold salads. This multiplies easily & doesn't take much work to make in a large quantity.
Most places that make cakes will also do a complementary round for your child to dig into!
Good luck & enjoy. You will probably receive feedback that you shouldn't do a large party for your 1 year old, but GO FOR IT. Have fun & take tons of pictures.

If you are trying to save a little money, have it at home or a relatives house. If you are just trying to get it over with, have it at a skating station or a local kid hangout or a place where families go to have fun and like to spend time. I think Sesame Street theme is fine. Just make sure that you have more than one cake at the party so the baby can play in one. (Thats common ata 1st birthday party)
PS: Hope this helps

Go to a Party Supply store and look for that theme. They will have invitations, table cloths, banners, plates, etc etc with that theme. Or the Internet has party supply stores online too. Then make a list of who you want to be there. I would suggest some place comfortable so that people can relax a bit. Trying to keep a 1 year old happy during all of this can be a handful!

My daughter just turned one and we invited alot of people. We decided it would be best to have it at the park and it turned out really well. Your baby will be one in Oct. right? If it is still warm you could have it outside too. We sent invitations out 2 weeks in advance, but depending on who you are inviting and where they live you may want to start sooner.the Sesame Street thing will probably go over really well. Good Luck!

For a one year old I'd do it at home. Get all the stuff like cups, plates, and a cake of Sesame Street. Then get balloons and napkins of the colors in the cake. Should be cute.

seriously at 1yrs old they wont know what is going on really - too much of a party will create a lot of stress... lets face it birthday parties for 1yr olds are really more for the parents than for the children.. just go to the park and have a fun family day - no need to stress about it for something that a 1yr old cannot appreciate.

u might not want to waste so much money on something your child will not remember. do a small party at home and make it any theme you want.
