And you have now become the proud owner of 96 Suburban with a *Bad Distributor*. You can buy a good distributor for that thing for about 35$. If you have 1 hour to waste by ripping the old one off and replacing it, you'll be on the road in no time.

*Note* By the off chance that it is the starter, theyre pretty cheap too. Just replace the distributor and the cap and you'll be good to go.

your question is very vague. some people confuse "no start" with "no crank". which is it? did a mechanic replace the fuel pump or did you? if a mechanic did, get your money back and take it to a real technician. if YOU did the fuel pump, then you have no business trying to diagnose and repair this vehicle unless you like to spend lots of money chasing the problem. there are many things that can cause a no start situation. the other items mentioned on your answers list are pretty good assumptions but without seeing it, they are simply just that... assumptions and are merely "shots in the dark" regardless of their likelihood of fixing the concern. the TSB's are a good source but theres no guarantee they are the cause of what your vehicle is truly experiencing. invest in a GM shop manual (be sure to get all the volumes for that particular model) if you want to fix it yourself. but since you probably need the vehicle right away, i'd take it to a reputable and "knowledgeable" technician (not a mechanic...theres a difference) or the dealer. pull a tech aside and see if he wants to do a side-job and maybe you can save a few bucks. he'll appreciate the cash, i'm sure.

Do you have ignition spark? If you do it still might be the fuel pump but not the pump itself, there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) about the CONNECTOR HARNESS.
Since you mentioned the fuel pump I figure you decided to change it because you had no fuel pressure., Check the connector harness, you can still have power but the fuel pump might not work . Look for the TSB and replace the Harness end.

Make sure the fuel pump and sending unit is installed properly and that you put things back together properly. Also it could take a while to get the fuel back to the engine and start up.

if the engine turns over, check for spark on it, if no spark and smell fuel try the crankshaft position sensor usually on the drivers side of the egine block close to the oil pan bolts.if that does not work try the camshaft position sensor, typically on the front of the engine near the water pump housing

you really did,nt provide much info on the vehicle,,and it could be a number of thing,s causing it,,first you would need to know if it was getting spark,,then fuel,,there are a lot of factor,s to figure in,good battery ,,or bad,,the clearer you are when asking a question,,the better your answer,s will be,,i been a mechanic for 35 yrs,,but i wont dare tackle this one.

try checking for injector pulse first, then spark, the lack of eather one most allways points to the module in the dist,no need to pull the dist to fix it
