How does the OCS officer selection board rate one against other while picking a candidate?

My husband submitted his OCS pakage. He has 8 years prior service in the Navy. He was in intel. He was a supervisor in his section. He has bachelors degree. I guess he is wondering what his chance of being selected is against other candidates.

If he is wanting to stay inside INTEL, he might have a 'slight' edge being in the field already. did he get out, get his degree and now want back in? that might be harder. INTEL is EXTREMELY competetive and in order to have a decent shot, he needs to have a 3.5 or better GPA in a Technical or Comp major, have outstanding evals, have the leadership skills(LPO or Work Center Sup). If he's willing to go SWO, he's probably got a better shot..lots of need there.

Is is looking at a straight Commission? Don't rule out LDO or Warrant. With eight years in, if he's an E6 and eligible to take the Chief's exam, he can try for LDO.

Sounds like it'll be a pretty good package. I got a friend of mine did average academically & had a DWI, was 4 years Army reserve NBC tech & got a NAvy OCS & flight slot. Is flying P3s now. I wouldn't think your husband will have all that much trouble.

It sounds like he'll do fine as long as he's not a dirtbag on the job. Of course, it'll depend on who else is competing for the slots.
