Cut out soda completely. NO energy drinks or sports drinks, either! ONLY plain water or 1/2 water and 1/2 fruit juice. Go ahead and snack but opt for fruits, veggies, and whole grain options (cereal with milk is great any time of day). When eating out, ask if you can have a vegetable or a salad instead of whatever starch comes with your meal. Go for grilled meats when available. Ask for a 'to go' container at the start of your meal and put half the meal away immediately. That way, you're cutting calories AND you've got a tasty lunch for the next day.

YANKEE POT ROAST, COLE SLAW AND JELLO:
You will need a slow cooker, so its not quick for today.
Pot roast:
3 lb chuck roast
1 pkg lipton onion soup mix, dry
1 can cream mushroom soup, campbells
1 celery stalk, diced
1 onion, diced
2 whole carrots, peeled and cut
4 potatoes, peeled and cut in 1/4
1 crushed garlic clove
3 tbsp flour
1 Reynold's slow cooker liner, optional
The slow cooker liner makes cleaning up a snap!
In the crock pot, add the can of cream mushroom soup, a can of water, the lipton dry soup, flour and mix the ingredients well.
Add the roast and the garlic. Mix around til covered with soup mix. Add the onions and veggies. Add water to barely cover the veggies (remember the water level may go up during cooking!).
Cover and turn crock pot to med/low. Cook 6-8 hours and it will be so tender! Serves 4
MEXICAN COLE SLAW
1 avocado, ripe, peeled and diced
1/2 bunch cilantro, finely diced
1 large tomato diced
1/2 cabbage, sliced and diced
1/4 c diced celery
1/2 brown onion, diced

Make the jello as on the package but use 1/2 cup less water.
Add fresh fruit like fresh strawberries, grapes, chopped apples. Let it gel for 4-6 hours. Mix up the jello and add 1/4 tub of cool whip. Add more if desired. Mix well, and its like an ambrosia.
Put the mix in a glass, and top with more fresh fruit or coolwhip.
Serves 4

Consider trying a Thai recipie. Thai food is the new thing and tends to be a light and healthy alternative to the normal American meal. It is easy to make and easy to find the ingredients. Try a red or green curry.
Before you knock "curry" you really need to understand what it is. Curry is a generic term for any kind of spice. You do not want the curry powder, you want the paste. Mix it with cocnut milk or diced tomatoes (whatever type of curry you are making). Pour the prepared curry sauce over a bed of Basmati rice and voila......just look on the internet to see how to make red curry, you won't be disappointed.

One of my favorites in this kind of painfully hot weather is a simple wrap. Just take a tortilla, and put some fresh shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, sour cream, and some kind of luncheon meat or maybe refried beans (say, out of a can) on it. Then roll it up just like a burrito--fold up the bottom about 1/4 of the way, then fold in one side and roll it up.
Simple, no stove, tasty. And lazy, and not very expensive (especially if you have a membership to Sam's/Costco/BJs)

Chicken strip wraps.. i made them for dinner one night and the kids loved having them for lunch the next day.. I bought boneless chicken ,cut into strips, seasoned it and bread crumbs , dipped in an egg/milk batter then rolled in flour and fried in skillet..Once done i spread sour cream on a tortilla place 1-2 chicken strips in middle with shredded cheese, lettuce and tomato served with fries .. There was lots left over 1-2 wraps for dinner was more then enough so kids had them for lunch and had a blast making their own.

I always think nothing is as quick and easy as anything that you put in the microwave or soup is also easy and quick and actually pretty reasonable cost wise. For a real winner pick microwave soup.

sand witches, microwave dinners, remade meals you can keep in your freezer, soup and chili from a can, a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store, and in most supermarket delis there are hot meals like fried chicken you can by or you can order out from many of your favorite restaurants.

Buy a George Foreman grill. You can grill indoors & everything tastes terrific. Try grilled cheese sandwiches. Grill onions & bell peppers. Cleans with a paper towel.
