That seems a little unbelievable to me. I don't know can they actually say that be 100% sure? And if it is 99% chance that you won't..why do so many people end up pregnant?

I have a ParaGard IUD in place. According to the information they provide, the breakdown for failure rate is as follows:

Oral contraceptives less than 3%
IUD less than 1%
Diaphragm with Spermicides 18%
Vaginal Sponge 18% to 28%
Condom alone 12%
Periodic Abstinence 20%
No Method 85%

Since none of these methods is 100% foolproof, then SOMEONE has to be that 1%, 3%, 18%, etc. And that assumes that the methods are used correctly in the first place!

Why are you questioning birth control? Nothing is 100% safe, that is why you add double protection with a condom. Some people don't do that, therefore, one little sperm makes its way to the egg! And not that many people become pregnant on BirthControl. If they do, they probably aren't taking them right or are missing days. Thats another way to reduce its chances of being 99% safe.

Nothing is 100% effective, unless you undergo an operation.
