there are greater risks associated with the pill after the age of thirty five... but that does not mean it is still not an effective method of birth control. A doctor can help you decide if those risks outweigh the benifits of the pill... it's an individual basis. Also, you have less risk if you are a nonsmoker.

There is no age limit. Anything you heard is pure nonsense/ fiction. You can stay on it as long as you want without any side effects unless you smoke or have a family history of blood clots. Otherwise it cant hurt you and you can still have babies. The pill just gives a woman hormones (just like your body makes natually) and basically tricks your body into thinking you are pregnant and then stops so you can have a period. The white pills at the end of your pill back are sugar pills. Nothing in them. The point of taking those pills is to get women to remember and used to taking it everyday. You can skip those "placebo" pills if you want, if that is when you are suppose to have your period. Only the colored pills have hormones in them.

You should discuss this with your doctor. Risks are greater if you are over 35 and/or smoke . However studies have also shown that women who are on the pill at least 5 years reduce their risk of cervical and uterine cancers as well.

Yikes - if that's the case I'm in trouble!
Actually, when you lead an unhealthy life, it is more likely to cause problems for you, but as long as you don't smoke, do exercise & eat right, get regular (annual) exams and do monthly self-breast-exams, there's a very low occurance of side effects. Still, if you're concerned, you should discuss this matter FULLY with your doc.... just like I did.

I think as long as you have a period it shouldn't matter how old you are. It really depends on how bad your menstrual periods are.
