Childcare programs seem to be only for single parents. I'm married, working paying all my bills, rent, utilities etc, doing everything right but my wife and I we get turned down for any type of assistance. It's almost like we're beeing punished for beeing married. She wants to go to school and work, but with the price of daycare, I probably would need to take another job, or my wife's earnings if she get a job would barely pay for the day care, then what would be the point If she's already taking care of our daughter at home. Any suggestions? I'm not looking for handouts, just some help. My wife is even considering divorce or separation because that would qualify us for some help. That can't be right. There has to be something for us out there. Please, any suggestions?

It's primarily because your wife is NOT working that you're not getting the assistance. We had this problem too. Even though I WANTED to go back to work, I couldn't because we couldn't get help to pay for daycare. But, since we couldn't pay for daycare without the help, I couldn't go back to work. A big catch 22. Instead, I enrolled part time in school again and was able to show that I wasn't able to care for our son all the time and that now that we had the added school expense, we need financial help. It worked! During that semester of school, I went and found a PT job, but kept going to school PT too. Oh, and I didn't tell "them" that I had taken a job either! (It helps that I get paid cash too!) May as well keep busy all week if you're paying for daycare all week right? :-)

I don't know of any programs but my fiance and I had the same problem. I work days and he works nights because daycare is $160 a week here in VA and we don't even have $20 a week to spend and they said WE don't qualify and we are not married. Here in VA even if you are NOT married you STILL have to claim both incomes or she has to have you paying child support because they will ask father and all that stuff.
