If you are an American citizen then you will probably not be able to work legally in France.

Moreover, the unemployment rate among young people is more than 20% so jobs are scarce even for French citizens.

Go to a hotel most of the employees will know how to speak English, you can get a job doing a variety of things at a hotel.

don't go to just any hotel though, try a nicer upper class hotel

It depends of your nationality first. If you are us citizen you cannot. If you are European you can.
If you study in France as a foreigner you are allowed to work 20 hours a week.
