Found this online:
Grape Nuts was one of the very first Post cereals and was an immediate hit. But, from the beginning, people wondered why the name, Grape Nuts
And finally Post explained that grape sugar was formed during the baking process of Grape Nuts, and, since the finished cereal had a nutty taste, he felt justified in calling it "Grape Nuts."
I always wondered that, too!

Why do they call it Apple Jacks? It doesn't taste like apples and they aren't shaped like jacks.
Why do you drive on a parkway and park in a driveway?
Why did they call Windows 95 a 32-bit multitasking operating system? It was neither 32-bit, nor multitasking, nor an operating system.
Who cares. We know it doesn't make sense but Grape Nuts are m-m-m-good.
