I read a news article involving the immigration, and it sounds like people forgot that almost everyone in America is an immigrant. Does this not irritate you?

Minus the real natives (I am one)
I think that "if you were born here you're a native" is ridiculous. It's just said to forget almost everyone's come from another country.

If you are born here, you are a native.
If an American Indian, say a person from the Navajo tribe were to move to England and have a baby, that child would still be Navajo, but not a native American.
Back when the foreigners came to North America, all of the indians, from all of the tribes were classified as native, because it was assumed that they were all born here. now, when an American is born in the united States, he/she is considered to be native.
In Florida, being a native Floridian is a symbol of pride, because most people in the state are immigrants from other states.
Also, this subject has been explored before on YA, and the answer is that most of us have no problem with immigrants, wether from Mexico or zimbabwi. The problem is with those people who are here ILLEGALLY. If you are ILLEGAL, get out, go home and try returning in accordance with our laws. We are a free country, and that freedom applies to our citizens, not to the rest of the world, and people that come here and take advantage of our generous nature.
I am not an immigrant, my children are not immigrants, my parents are not immigrants(their parents were).

Its not just the white people, its the Mexicans who were born here or are legal citizens that are complaining as well.
I am white and I was born in this country so how can I be an immigrant?
So because my ancestors were born somewhere else that makes me an immigrant?
I am a native of this country which DOES make me a "native american".
I dont get how that irritates you.

Most American are not immigrants. Most Americans are descended from immigrants. Technically anyone born in a place is native to that place. So most people in America ARE native Americans. The term 'native American' has been changed to refer to the tribal peoples that were here when Europeans arrived. But those people also came from somewhere else -- Asia.
But I see what you are getting at and yes it is kind of irritating.
People should not be angry at the illegals they should be angry at the people who are hiring them and the government that is not enforcing already existing laws against hiring illegals. The truth is that big business like meat slaughterers etc. want the cheap labor and also to keep the wages of Americans down. People should be mad at the businessmen and politicians not the poor people who are trying to make a better life for themselves and their families.

I am White. I am also half Cherokee and a quarter Sioux. Blonde hair, blue eyes. Go figure. I am not, however, and immigrant. My mother was not an immigrant, nor her mother, nor her mother nor her mother.
Some of my ancestors may have immigrated here 200 years ago, but they weren't stealing anyone's jobs when they did so, nor infringing on anyone else's rights, OR BREAKING ANY LAWS.
America was made great in part because of immigrants from so many differing countries and cultures. NOBODY is denying that, or forgetting it.
The immigration issues today hinge entirely on the ILLEGAL aspect of the problem.
Re-read that article you mentioned, and pay attention to ALL of the words. You're missing the point of the whole discussion.

That won't work on the U.S. Government cubby holeing procedure.Although you are African American and you were not born in Africa. The first whites that came to this country were legal. There were no immigration laws so there children are probably Native Americans. Remember it was not america then. The Indians were not Native American at that time. As the Government always does....They gave them the name Native American so that they can cubby hole them, so they know who they are should the need arise. Same goes for african american. They know who you are and where you are and everything that they need to know about you.

You will drive yourself crazy if you obsess over the fact that the "white" people are known to be the chosen race. I guess that it just the order of things here in the U.S. I am asian, became a citizen at the age of 6 years old and hope that this country never has another war with any asian country again. I don't want to have to worry about being dis-placed due to being 'asian' like they poor folks did back in the WW2 times. They were born in United States, but because they were asian, they were put in camps....we have to just live our lives everyday and be grateful for all that we do have today!

I get what you are saying but what is more ridiculous is when SOUTH American border jumping illegal Mexicans claim that they are Native American as in the true American Indian. They can never, however, say which tribe they are from or enrollment number they possess. Lying is just a way of life with them it seems.

Not really, seeing that Native Americans migrated over from now modern-day Russia. So technically, we're all immigrants.
