In an all out war, there would be no victor, ie, nukes would make life unliveable. If you're talking about a conventional war, then it be no contest. Let's look at some of the facts:

I am a Brit and incredibly proud of the quality of our men and women in the armed forces. I don't think that many would disagree that our special forces (SAS and SBS) are world leaders at what they do.

However

Our military is absolutely tiny compared to the USA. We have more football supporters currently over on Germany watching the World cup than we have soldiers in our army.

Our entire air force is smaller than what is kept on just one US airforce air national guard base.

The last time we had to go an defend a piece of British territory we had to borrow ships off New Zealand, and transport our finest troops 8000 miles in cross channel car ferries designed to go 22 miles across the north sea.

Our rifles are so good that our own special forces will not use them, and our battlefield radios still do not work.

Most of all however even in wartime when we ask our brave young men and women to put their lives on the line, our lilly livered fat politicians send them to war without half the equipment they need.

When deployed to Iraq soldiers were having to buy their own desert boots, there was not enough body armour to go around, and if you look at any footage of the war you will see soldiers with desert camo trousers and then a jacket which would make the invisible anywhere in a forest in Northern Europe.

We lost 6 MP's because they faced 200 Iraqis and did not have a radio, and only fifty bullets each (about 30 seconds of firing time on full auto).

I believe our troops and training is second to none, but we are so tiny that my American friends could run over us like a speed bump.

Well, my friend, firstly I'm English and secondly British. Somebody said that America beat us last time, he/she meant the American war of Independence, yeah thats right, can't deny it. Every country has the right to rule itself. Glad that were best of friends now though. England was going through a bad time in the English Civil War, so basically, a bunch of Puritan pilgrams, thought we've had enough of this s h i t, and jumped on the Mayflower in 1666, and went to America, good on them, can't blame 'em. America would beat us into next week, for instance on the U.S.S. Independence, warship, carry's more firepower than the whole of the bombs dropped throughout the Second World War, plus its shear numbers, there are more people in the U.S forces than in the British forces, so greater numbers would beat you everytime, for instance, on the Eastern Front, in World War 2, even though the Germans, were better trained, better prepared troops, the Russian troopers, out numbered the Germans 6 to 1, so imagine, if you have 100 Germans defending a hill, 600 Russians are attacking it, you're doomed to fail, not sure how many U.S personnel to British personnel, but would'nt be far off 6 to 1, I'm glad as an Englishman, that were helping in Iraq, would'nt liked to have seen the U.S, swinging in the breeze, over there on its own, so good to help our buddies. If the U.S, had not come and help us in World War 2, maybe, I'd have been talking German now, or maybe not talking at all, God Bless America and God save the Queen.

The possibility is inconceivable. The military forces of the United Kingdom and other NATO powers (excepting France) are so interlinked in relation to things like communications facilities, logistics and armaments standards that it no longer makes sense to think of them as independent.

Britian would have no chance in a war with the United States because America controls the satellite surveillance systems and also because the United States military equipment is technologically far in advance of anybody else's - for instance America has not shared its stealth technology with any allies. In addition, now that the United Kingdom is without colonies its economic capacity simply would not support a major war, any more than would that of Spain or Italy.

I was based in England for a year. I loved it there & our brothers across the sea. I loved serving beside their outstanding troops. Very good folks.

Not to sound arrogant, but the US is a superpower & the UK is not. The UK is VERY strong, but the quality of their equipment (I can speak mainly to airpower here) is for the most part 15-20 years behind our own, and that's being a country we'll give any secret thing we have if they ask. They just don't spend enough on defense to keep up with our level of technology. The quality of their navy is excellent compared to anyone on the sea, and possibly second only to the US. They would hurt us real bad, but eventually they are just too small & outmatched. They depend too much on our alliance & use too much of our satellites & such that would slightly cripple them if we were to take it away.

In a man to man fight with all else (equipment & numbers) being equal, we'd fight each other to a flat draw. We love you guys over there, and of course such a thing could NEVER happen. I'm very happy you're on our side, and you should know that we'd be on your side no matter the circumstances in anything you could ever need. We're family, even when we may disagree on minor details.

If it was a fist fight between us and the US on the otherhand we would wipe them out - even though there are five times more yanks than there are British people we would batter them!

I am pretty sure that if these were the only two countries in the war it would not be a contest. Now if China and U.S. went at it, I would like to watch this one. It would be a great fight with U.S.'s far superior fighting forces but China has a billion or so people. It would be great until they both whipped out the nukes and ended the world.

The American Revolution - The War of 1812 - means we are 2 and 0 going up against the Brits and let us not forget bailing them out of World War II - So I would have to put my money on the U.S.A.

Well now, All we need to do is let the American forces kill each other as thay are so good at, then while the numbers are low we go in and clean up. easy. To make sur we win we fly our flag on everything so we don't get shot.
