I do accept Jesus Christ as my Savior, but I'm just curious, why? I know that there must be atonement for sin, but why must there be blood shed for this to take place? Hopefully there are some good pastors out there!! God Bless

Think of it like "Back to the Future". In B.T.T.F. part I, Marty goes back to 1955 and all that happy stuff, only to Doc get killed at the end. Then, in Back to the Future Part II, he goes back in again and writes Doc a letter so he'd know to where a bullet-proof vest on that fateful night. So basically, Marty McFly to experience death and loss in order to know what was right. Does that make sense? If it does, then damn.

Actually, it's "thou shalt not murder", not "kill", and it pertains to people, not animals. Being a christian you must know that the sacrifice was to be forgiven for a sin, and that Christ took that sacrifice upon Himself, so there's no need for it now. Also, some of the sacrifices were plants, etc., not all were animals, depended on the particular sin. I also had a hard time with that, being an animal lover, just glad I live now and not under the Jewish law at that time. Also, if you're not Jewish, those laws wouldn't have pertained to you anyway.

Well "Thou shalt not kill" and the rest of the Old Covenant asked people to be perfect in every aspect of life, even though God knew that we couldn't be. The Old Covenant was there to show us how messed up we are. The atoning sacrifices were just necessary because when we sin, a part of us dies. I believe it's symbolic. However, thank the Lord that he came to be our one final attoning sacrifice!!!

The commandment is not 'Thou shalt not kill', as it is typical used in modern America. It is 'Thou shalt not murder'. God is fine with you killing for the good, right reasons. For example, in war or to save someones life from a mad man.

Note that god never asked for a human sacrifice(well..maybe once or twice, but he had a good reason). God only wants animal sacrifices, as animals were simply put there for man to use as he wishes.

I assume you are talking about the sacrifice of Jesus. Actually that was a covenant and NOT a sacrifice, per se. As you ponder, try to keep this in mind: the main failing of the human race is to believe that the WORST thing that can happen to you in life...is to DIE!
Perhaps in death lies the Blessing!

Normally back in Moses' time, the sacrifices they were speaking of were animals, not humans. In the bible, animals are not considered on the same plane with humans, so therefor, their killing was not considered the same. Have you read the old testament? You should--just skip over the "begats" parts.

In the original hebrew it says, "You shall not murder." The translaters of the King James Version didn't do a very good
job with this particular verse.

"Think not that I am come to send peace: I came not to send peace but a sword." (Matthew 10:34) "He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one." (Luke 22:36) "But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me." (Luke 19:27) "If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." (John 15:6)
