Work's been tough, but if I don't get some sleep, I'll really be in trouble. It's just that everytime I lay down to sleep I just end up laying there staring at my ceiling. I need a solution, fast!!!

When i can't get to sleep, I say to myself, "You could get up and finish ironing that basketful," and I immediately fall asleep. I have told my friends this trick and they say it works for them, too.

Sleeping pills can work...but they are ADDICTIVE.
Try the following steps:

1. Go to bed at the same time every night!
2. Always get up at the same time...regardless of how much sleep you get the night before.
3. If you cannot sleep for more than 15 minutes, get up and go into another room and do something else until you feel sleepy.
4. Do not read, watch tv, etc.. in your bed. (Beds are for sleeping and sex only.)
5. Turn out the lights and relax for at least 15 minutes before you get in the bed. Do not have any caffiene within like 3 hrs. of your bed time (this helps your body relax and be more ready for sleep...the lights, caffiene, etc... keep you awake.)

Making yourself do the above will help your body get back to its natural cycles and you will be able to sleep longer and get the deep REM sleep that is needed for a good nights rest!

Hope this helps!!!

I use to have the same problem all the time and then my doctor put me on Ambien and it really works. I have no trouble falling asleep now and it doesn't make me feel bad the next day either but it is a bit expensive, I have good insurance and it will only pay for half a month's worth, there might be some less expensive similar out there you just need to go to your regular doctor and ask. Good luck.

Warm baths before bed can help. No caffeine at nigh preferably afternoon. Warm tea. Meditation. None of this works for me I have had severe insomnia for years. My doctor prescribed Ambien CR, its non-addictive. It gets you to sleep in 20 min and you sleep all night. Check with your doctor for what is best for you.

i have severe insomnia, and have taken every kind of sleep aid out there. What works best for me is Lunesta with milk at the same time every night. benadryl and tylenol PM and such can create excitability and thats the last thing you want. Newer meds these days, like Ambien, Sonata, Lunesta are non narcotic and non habit forming. call your doc.

Either stop thinking about WHY you can't sleep or take a hot bath before you go to sleep. As the body temp. lowers, you will get sleepy. And eat a few carbs before bed as well. I'm an EX-insomniac, so I know these work.

Try drinking a warm beverage before you go to sleep. I prefer de-caffeinated green tea. For some reason, tea is a relaxing agent that puts my mind and body at ease after a busy day.

There are many herbal teas that help promote sleep. Also try to relax yourself systematically as you lay in bed. Start with your toes and work your way up to your eyes and head...one body part at a time. It really works. Good luck.

Go to a doctor. Then take whatever he reccomends. Also, what helps to fall asleep is tea. Nice soft music, pastel colored walls. Nice insense or lava lamps and just think about something you like with everything else dark. Goodf luck :)!

a hot bath, herbal, a good book. Try to relax and take calming breaths. If your mind is racing write in a journal so you can release your thoughts before you lay down'
