I had the same problem. First of all get rid of the ends. If you don't cut it now your hair will be worse in a couple of months, believe me! You should try the redken all soft products. They work really well! I would recommend using a hair mask at least once a week for about 30 min or more if you can. Try to not wash you hair everyday, every three days will do so. If you do, don't use a shampoo but condition it. Do NOT blow dry it! It really causes much damage. Instead let it dry naturally. Don't straighten your hair with a hot iron while it is still damp. It will cause you to get split ends and breakage. Use a heavy cream for your hair that provides enough moisturize. There are also many home-mask that are very easy to make and use. Mix avocado and olive oil and use it on your hair for about 30 min, then wash as normal. Your hair will be so shiny. It might seem disgusting, but it makes your hair really soft. If you don't want to use that use the Kerastase or Rekden products they work wonders. Also remember that what you eat is very important if you want your hair to look healthy and shiny. Eat alot of fruit and vegetables, also drink LOTS of water.
Hope this helps:)

Dry ends can definitely make a gorgeous head of hair look not so healthy. Have you tried going to a hair salon and having your hair re-conditioned. It's similar to a putting conditioner in your hair only it tends to be a bit stronger in performance. The stylist generally will put the re-conditioner in your hair and put you under a dryer for anywhere from 10 - 15 minutes. If they ends are dry because you have dead ends, you may need to get them cut to make your hair healthier. I know you are trying to get longer hair, but the hair don't necessarily need to be cut short. Just have it trimmed. Removing the damaged ends may actually help prevent any knots or tangles and may actually help you achieve the longer hair style you are seeking in the end.

Eat protein and gelatin so your hair will grow in strong. You can buy gelatin capsules if you don't want to eat a lot of Jello. You should also take a Vitamin E capsule daily and cook with canola oil, for shiny hair.
You should use a deep conditioner on your hair once a week. You can pick one up at a drug or beauty supply store. Also avoid straightening, curling, or blow drying your hair. All of these can damage your hair and make it drier.
You can also try using coconut oil on your hair once a week. Massage it into your scalp, and pull it through your hair. Leave it on overnight, and shampoo it out in the morning. Coconut oil adds moisture and shine, and helps repair damaged hair. You can find it in a natural/health food store or online at places like www.drugstore.com. You can use olive oil or shea butter as a treatment if you prefer.

I have waist length hair that I get cut once a year. I have already made three donations to "Locks of Love". (They make wigs for kids with cancer.) I would have to say the best thing I do for my hair is NOT to blow dry it. I let it dry naturally. Also I use Aussie Knot Forgotten after shampooing. It gets all the tangles out but rinses out of your hair thoroughly and does not weigh it down.

1. Take vitamin E supplements
2. Avoid blow-drying whenever possible, but if you must, use lower heat and try and ionic blow-dryer (available at most stores)
3. I've had great luck using Pantene Pro-V Daily Hydrating Moisture Renewal shampoo and conditioner
4. Occasionally use a hot oil treatment
5. Don't smoke

You cannot fix hair that is dry or brittle.. if you use "lots" of conditioner all you are doing is coveringup the mess. get your hair trimmed every four to six weeks.. a slight trim goes a long way.... Try not to over do it with the products.. all you are doing is making the situation worse!!!
