Last night I went to clean all my hummingbird feeders and refill and I found one that had a ring of about 8-10 medium size ants (@ 1/4" long)
circiled around the hole like they were protecting the food source until there breathern came back.
They would not leave the hole even as I carried them into the house and flushed them down the drain with hot water ????????

Some ants are attracted to sugar. I know you can put Vaseline on the pole that you hang your feeder on to keep them out. I have to wash my feeder a lot to keep the ants off, and reapply the Vaseline about once a week.

The hummingbird food has a lot of sugar in it. The ants LOVE sugar. They were just trying to get a sugary snack.
