I wouldn't call it a war for no reason - there were some very unpleasant episodes of 'ethnic cleansing' there, not a million miles removed from the crimes of the holocaust. Also various sections of the community actually requested UN help in their desperation (unlike Iraq where the US/UK/Aus etc just stormed in uninvited).

But it is terrible to have people you care about miles from home. I hope everyone involved in peacekeeping duties returns home safely soon.

Well that was peacekeeping (he said laughing). I was there in 95, and I can tell you there were very good reasons to be involved. I wish the Muslim world would look to our activities there standing up for muslims over christians. It was & is doing the right things for the right reasons. At this point we are in the latter stages of marshalling democracy into the forefront & standing aside as each new country develops its own military force not intent on killing each other. Borders are still stabailizing. You'll recall a new country was just formed this month, Kosovo is next. The people there are not shooting at us & are generally very thankful that NATO is there to help welcome & usher them into a peaceful new world with the differences that caused WWI finally settled rather than just put on a back burner behind the iron curtain. It's a fairly peaceful place & we'll be out all together fairly soon.

The war had its reasons and yes We even killed a lot of civilians in the war...just like the liberals will tell you were killing in Iraq. At one time our military run by Bill had mistakenly kill 2500 catholics by mistake.
Our troops will be there for a long time to come
