Sleeping pills are ok in moderation.
Other alternatives:
* No caffiene after 3pm
* Eat your dinner 2-3 hours before you go to bed.
* Go for a walk/run after/before dinner - you will be exhausted
* Never read in bed - should only be in bed when you are ready to sleep.
* Lavender drops on your pillow will also help.
Good Luck

No matter what the makers of sleeping pills like Ambien tell you, they are addictive. They worked great in the beginning but soon I couldn't fall asleep without them even though I didn't stay asleep more than an hour before I was up again. My insomnia actually seemed worse within a few months. I have found that if I can't sleep-just get up. Get out of the bedroom. Watch TV, read, whatever , but don't try again till you get sleepy again. Then if possible- change bedrooms. I found if I can't sleep now , I get up and watch TV downstairs for about a half hour , then crawl into bed in the guest room. Totally new feeling- refreshing- I go right back to sleep. Worth a try. Drug free!

I have the same problem, always have. Been to the doc a few times. They just tell you your internal clock is off... and then prescribe meds which I think I am better without. They knock you out, and if you have to wake up for work, you feel like putty all day... and if you dont have to wake up for work, then you sleep like 12 hours. A good way to get your head cleared when trying to sleep is have a notepad by the bed, write your thoughts... down. Then try to focus on your breathing, sounds dumb but works, just think about breathing in and out... Also if I know I have to wake up early, I will take 1 to 2 tylonel pm, take at least 8 hours before you have to wake up so they get out of your system. Also a glass of wine does help too, or reading a book, yep I play a handheld tetris game everynight.

Sleeping pills can work...but they are ADDICTIVE.
Try the following steps:
1. Go to bed at the same time every night!
2. Always get up at the same time...regardless of how much sleep you get the night before.
3. If you cannot sleep for more than 15 minutes, get up and go into another room and do something else until you feel sleepy.
4. Do not read, watch tv, etc.. in your bed. (Beds are for sleeping and sex only.)
5. Turn out the lights and relax for at least 15 minutes before you get in the bed. Do not have any caffiene within like 3 hrs. of your bed time (this helps your body relax and be more ready for sleep...the lights, caffiene, etc... keep you awake.)
Making yourself do the above will help your body get back to its natural cycles and you will be able to sleep longer and get the deep REM sleep that is needed for a good nights rest!
Hope this helps!!!

No,I have the same problem.Here what you can do.Okay start by not watching TV three hours before sleep.Avoid coffee and other caffiene products. Because they will keep you awake.Try not to eat anything while sleeping an hour before.And you might try to stretch or do some kind of relaxation technique before going to sleep.I dance and just do some exercises in bed.And don't stay up late, because it leads to keeping awake and thinking.And that could be difficult.Remeber you are not alone,there are millions of people in this world who can't sleep.And again I am one of them.Stay away from pills they are dangerous and can worsen the problem.Good luck.

I am an insomniac since i was fifteen. My mom did not allow me to use sleeping pills due to the risk of dependency. She have an alternative that is letting me intake vitamins b-12, vitamin b-2 is known to relax your nervous system and help you fall asleep.
When i turned 18 i tried drinking atleat a glass of red wine but not overdrinking it. It really knocks you down to a deep slumber.
I did tried puffing minimal amount of weeds but the effects varies. it doesn't necessarily make you sleepy.
Also try drinking a hot cup of milk before bed time of course don't do this if your lactose intolerant. God bless!

Melatonin tablets work really well for regulating sleep patterns.
Ever notice that after a long day in the sun, your body feels really tired? That's because the sun causes the body to produce melanin (which darkens the skin). The release of that natural chemical in the body causes drowsiness.
Melatonin is a supplement that releases melanin into your body and makes it feel naturally tired.
It's worth a shot. It's worked for me in the past and it's worked for several of my friends. We even have a bottle of it in the medicine cabinet where I work.

I have the same problems.
I have taken meds, and none of them seem to work. But, given the fact that I dont like taking pills anyways, I still give them almost a year to see if they work. They havent so I am off the pills, and still tossing and turning.
I hope that you have better sucess than I have not had.
I wsh you well..

Right there with U babe....a glass of wine or a beer helps me tremendously. Melatonin will also work, but expect that your dream life will be big, bold and somewhat bothersome.
