I feel that God is mind altering, yea! But a drug, no way. I have drug use experience and God was not a drug I abused, but my quick fix, and life long "fix". We old hippies! Don't get me started! Hope this helps, kim ; )

Well, Karl Marx thought so. "Religious distress is at the same time the expression of real distress and the protest against real distress. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusion about its condition is the demand to give up a condition which needs illusions."
Karl Marx, Critique of Hegel’s Philosophy of Right

But then, he also invented Communism. And so, many people think that statement is the voice of a traitor to those who feel enlightened.

Quick fix? Are you nuts? It's not easy ya know. Lots of temptation out there. It's not "mind altering" in the way you seem to think, just gives you a different perspective. I sometimes have to force myself to think differently, act differently. You have no idea how many times I feel the urge to cuss people out or have temper tantrums. Self-control, one of those difficult parts.

I wouldn't characterize belief as a "mind altering drug", but I do believe it to be an illusion. Try living as a good person without the religion and you'll find yourself still making good decisions.

I don't believe that God is a "quick fix". I feel that he helps us get through things. If Believing in God makes me feel better and have hope, what's wrong with that? I would rather believe in something and feel resolve, than not believing in anything at all.

For those that jump on the religious bandwagon late in life - there is the possibility that they're doing it just because they're finally actually getting worried about dying.

However - many people have their beliefs their whole life - and a whole life isnt a good definition of QUICK!

Its not easy living in such a cold a corrupt world. So people find ways to cope. Some choose drugs, others choose religion.

God did not create man. Man created God.

I don't think Gos is a quick fix. I went to bible camp today, actually help the teachers to teach little childern about the bible. I found out that.. yes, God give us problem, that way.. we turn our heart to God and pray about it... in this way God will resolve the problem with His own way... and also in this way.. we can cooperate with God ot fix the problem... he will not just give us a shortcut to fix the problem... he will not sopil his children.. but he give the problem that we can enjoy God...

I'm not trying to preach the gospel here... but I just want to share about my experience myself.. once I really desperate about my school.. I'm in graphic design major, and most of the time I got stuck.. which i have no idea what i have to do.. I have a lot of fear.. but my sister give me this verse (Philippians 4:6 "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God" ) then i start pray read about this verse, i start sing hymen called "Just taste and see that the lord is good" (my favorite) I sing over and over.. pray over and over.. once i realize.. i have no anxious or fear anymore... I even feel peace... i even question my self where is my fear... and yeah of course.. he didn't give me the idea right away.. I just pray that... God will working with me in this matter... so I just enjoying God all day.. with peace... so I be able to work on my project.. guess what... I got a better result than other students.. they all surprise.. coz at 3rd week meeting in class, i have nothing.. and my teacher also worry about me.. anyway.. through this problem.. i be able to enjoy God.. I can really turn my heart into God.. so If God gives usewhatever we want.. that way we will not even think about pray to him.. turn our heart to him and even enjoy God.. and that way we will not cooperate with God to fix the problem... and just forget the God is our satisfaction.. that give us peace...

God is a nightlight, in the middle of a storm.

Trouble is, some people mistake it for the sun.
