There have been more books and articles about toilet-training your cat than you'd think. In the summer of 1989, when Misha was a small kitten with big ears and enough meow for five cats, I searched out and read a half-dozen of them. And then tried it myself, and discovered there were a couple of things they all failed to mention ...
Some of the advice in those books turned out to be impractical. Some of it was unnecessary. Some of it was quite sensible and worked like a charm. A lot of what works and what doesn't work depends on the individual cat — on her personality and smarts. Here's what worked for me and Misha.
The central idea is that the transition from litter box to toilet be accomplished in a series of stages. You make a small change and then give your cat time to adjust before you make another small change. If at any time Felix gives the whole thing up and pees on the rug instead, you're pushing him too far too fast; back up a stage or two and try again, more slowly.
In the following instructions, I've used the word "rest" to mean: do nothing for a period of between a day and a week, depending on how flappable your cat is. (Misha caught on fast and was completely trained in under two weeks, far in advance of what the books led me to expect.)

Hope this helps.

By process of elimination. We taught our cat to use the toilet. We made a little device that held cat sand and we strapped it on the toilet seat - then we slowly took out the cat sand and the cat learned to not dig - and then we took off the device that we had on our toilet and the cat would just jump up on the toilet and straddle the toilet seat & go potty - the only thing we couldn't teach it was to flush - hee hee

My friends toilet trained their cat. They got a special toilet seat shaped litter box thing, and had her go to the bathroom on that for a while. Then the moved the litter box onto the toilet (it was a special thing made for that purpose) and she had to hop up to use the litter box. Eventually, they moved the box, and now she uses the toilet. I never would have believed it, but with paticence and persistance, anything is possible I guess.

My dad did that with our old cat. What he did was to start by putting the litter box next to the toilet...then after about two weeks he raised it off the ground a bit by putting it on top of an upside down box-lid. after another couple of weeks he raised it more...and continued that way until the box was level with the toilet. then he came up with a way of hooking a container under the toilet seat so the cat would use that...a few weeks later he removed it and the cat just used the toilet like us. Then he slowly started teaching her to flush by using the "reach for food" response that most cats exhibit. If you put food just out of reach of their mouth they'll use their paw to reach for it...he held it close to the toilet lever and everytime she tapped the lever he said "good girl" and gave the treat. eventually she learned...touch lever-get food...and then she started to realise that he wanted her to do that after she used the toilet...and it worked great...never had to empty a litterbox after that.

greater of a canines man or woman, as long as I even have the room for it. canines are fantastic yet people have their very own suggestions. i think of possibly greater people very own cats because of the fact no longer anybody has the room or time for canines. Cats make their very own schedule and dont want you to be around each and all the time. canines gets lonely yet they're very affectionate. They bark to guard you, no longer all of them slobber and stink and canines will shop you in greater effective shape. you would be greater companies to workout and luxuriate in it in case you have a canines. Cats are cool, and that i've got had a pair of cool cats yet they are in a position to be incredibly chilly too. Going the place they want, whilst they want and how they want. canines are mans ultimate pal, nonetheless genuine as we communicate. For me besides.
