You do not need a Visa to get into Hong Kong. The number of days allowed to stay depends on the nationality. If you are an American, it will most likely be anywhere between 1-3 months. :)

American citizens do not need a visa for Hong Kong. Visit good for 90 days.

I *think* you may need to go to the Chinese consulate for that. My dad just took a 3 week trip to China and then spent another 5 days in Hong Kong. So, he had to go to the consulate to get a visa for the visit to China. Just not sure if he would have had to do that if he had only gone to Hong Kong.

if you're just going to hong kong (and not mainland china)...and you're a US citizen, then you can go to hong kong for 90 days without a visa. i was there in january.
