America is taking steps to become the unbiased nation of diversity that it set out to be so long ago. Religious Freedom was guarenteed in the Bill of Rights way back when the whole thing started. It wouldn't be appropriate for a Government to pick one religion over all the others and then have the gaul to call themselves a Melting Pot.

Think of it like this:

-What if the United States had a preferred Official Race?
-What if the United States had a preferred Official Government Party?
-What if the United States had a preferred Official TV Channel??

The preferred choice would be favored over all others. In fact, the others might eventually become the victims of phase outs and other conversionairy tactics. Don't believe me? The preferred official Language of the United States is English. Have a nice day.

To entangledhere:

Benjamin Franklin was an Atheist. The British used to call him names for his beliefs (or the lack thereof) back when he was in London before the revolution.

Thank you. Hear that fundies? We're not picking on you, we just want things to be equal. And before someone says it, our founding fathers were not Christian. They were deists.

"It was during [John] Adam's administration that the Senate ratified the Treaty of Peace and Friendship, which states in Article XI that "the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion.'"

I am unbiased in saying this, because I see the points on both sides. But the reason that people are upset is because this nation was started by Christians and based on Christian values and founded on God. Yes, it is seen as a diverse and accepting nation now, but I don't think that it was intended for God to be an option. When the US was created, everyone was a Christian and the founding fathers didn't think that would ever change.

People are always worried when Government prefers one religion over another and they should. When they put God on their buildings, in their schools, etc. There's A REASON THE FOUNDING FATHERS SEPARATED CHURCH AND STATE. Because they new the dangers of not doing so. By 'preferring' one you are setting up a system of inherent prejudice. Its easy to let this get out of hand. Thank God we have a country where Islam, Judaism, Christianity and even Satanism are allowed. To each his own.

When the true living God of Heaven and earth created this world and everything in it , including man and woman, it was by Gods` divine choice and will, that He gave man the intellect, and a free will to make choices, God taught man the difference of good and evil, and let him know the consequences of both, He also encouraged man to choose the good, avoid evil, and to do good,In fact God commanded us to do good to others, so that it will go well for us, This is where LAW first began, "Without Gods Law, There is No Law", Our courts based the laws of the land on the foundation of Gods` law, His law is not biased, it is for all, and the good of mankind. Without the "written word of God" who would even care about laws ? before God gave laws, men lived as, and did as they pleased, and mostly it pleased them to do evil, without regard to how their neighbor or anyone thought or felt, much like it is today in our society of unbelieving, rebellious generation, when people don`t care about God let alone His laws, no wonder some of our children don`t care about the parents and their rules or the laws of the land. We as born again Christians know fully, without any doubt the Bible is right, so somebody is wrong, it seems that mankind is always choosing bad over the good, regardless to the out come. Seeing this, I`m not at all surprised that man wants to try to abolish Christianity(it will never happen). which is "NOT A RELIGION"but an organization (a living organism) in the Body of Christ Jesus. Gods law should never be removed from our courts, schools, etc. what will we have to justly stand on when it comes to Thefts, Drugs, Adulteries, murders, rapes, dishonor, and other crimes that people comitt daily? perhaps, Let them all go free , because without Gods law, there is no law. Then shouldn`t we that love Gods peace, law and order, be upset ? If we`d all obey Gods law, that kindly tells us how to love, respect and live together in this present world, then we sure could have wonderful nice day!

Your question has pin pointed the hypocrisy of this nation. I do love my country, so don't misconstrue this, but when this country was formed, the basic ideals were to have religious freedom, yet all of the documents were marked in one way or another with a "God" reference. I, personally don't care one way or the other about the removal of God references from state and federal properties, but if this bothers the christians so much, by all means, let them fight to keep the references there. It is, after all, their right.

When the US was first originated, it was based on freedom of religion, and of course, "one nation under God", and I really think that a lot of american's see our nation in that way. If you take God out of the equation, we're no different than any european nation, we lose our individuality. And yes, this is an independent nation, at least we like to believe it is.

Because God keeps us in check. Our morals are based out what he accepts.
