You could develope a falsetto that is very similar to your ordinary voice. It worked for me when I sang in rock bands.

I've heard vocal majors practicing a sort of siren thing before they start to sing, which helps to warm up their vocal chords and stretch their range. If your chorus teacher says you "need more soprano notes", then talk to her about how to stretch your range. If she can't tell you how, then I don't think she should expect it from you; she may not know what she is asking of you. I have also heard that when your lower range increases, your higher range also does, but I really don't know that well - I'm a violist.

Oh ya, an octave seems a lot to try and reach for, so just make sure to increase your range really slowly, or you will have permanent and probably irrepairable damage to your voice.

Well you'll need to work on your head voice more. Drop your jaw, lower your larynx by almost yawning, have a LOT of breath support and imagine the notes coming from your forehead.

Don't push, grip, or force. High notes are nice, but can sound awful if you don't go at them correctly.

Warm up every day and go as high as you can go. Eventually you will stretch your range very little but with a while you will gain quite a lot.

if your range is that big, maybe you should focus on being an alto. Don't sing all the time in the extremes of your range, you can injure your voice.
