Depends on what kind you use. There are polishes specifically for animal use that are non-toxic if consumed. The biggest problem with using human polishes is if your dog has a tendency to chew at its nails. I have never run across that problem personally. The worst problems I have experienced when trying to apply human polish to animals is with the smell of the polish. Because animals have a better since of smell than we do, the "aroma" of the polish can cause them to get nauseous, some have even vomited from the smell. I just try to get a small fan to blow in the general direction of the polishing activities to keep the pet's nose well ventilated. As a dog groomer, I have done this hundreds of times with great success.

I don't think people nail polish would be good for a dog. As that does not dry fast enough. Dog nail polish drys very fast. I mean how long do you think you can get your dog to sit still so his nails can dry?

You don't use enough of it on their nails to hurt them even if they chew it all off. The polish made specifically for dogs costs 3 to 5 times as much, and is made with the same ingredients as the cheapest walmart stuff.

no not at all. my mom breeds mini doxies and when the babbies are born, we paint their nails a different color so we know who was born first and such. and we dont use
" Doggie " nail polish either. But, we did ask our vet befor we did so. But if you just want your dogs nails to " look pretty " then go ahead and paint away! i hope i was of some help to you! have fun

Great Question.....

Yes, IT IS toxic, doesn't matter which brand, what kind it is or if the dogs nails are dried. Dogs chew their feet & nails when they are itchy. Please check with pet stores or someone who knows. There is actually a nail polish for dogs, & it is used for dog costume contests!

No, nail polish is not bad for dog's as long as it is of the non-toxic variety.

Check Ebay, or maybe some pet groomers. I bought
"O.P.I. Paw-lish" for my dog. It's almost identicle to people polish, but a little more durable :o)

don't let the dog eat it! it makes cats freak out, once i was painting my toe nails and my cat licked the bottle and started frothing for a minute, but then he was ok
