Take it from a veteran diabetic, try Coke Zero (I don't like Diet Coke, this one tastes better), Diet Dr. Pepper(favorite) or add a squeeze of lemon to your water.

P.S.
Sports drinks are not low cal unless you have the 8oz recommended serving, about 14-18g sugar per serving.

Crystal Light, Sugar free Kool Aid, Sugar free Tang. There are lots of different powdered mixes you can try that won't leave the after taste that you mentioned. The Crystal Light is available in powder or in bottles.

try diet cherry vanilla dr pepper.

I know it's a handful, but it's a very good diet soda. I usually drink tea but crave a soda. and that's what I choose. Also, you can choose some tea that is iced. I like Chai, White, and Green.

Splenda does not leave that weird aftertaste for most people. Try soft drinks with Splenda (Diet Rite makes caffeine-free cola, orange, white grape, etc)

How about 10% apple juice and 90% sparkling water? Perfect for hot days....

Or water with lemon or lime juice....

Alcohol-free beer is also an alternative....
