moves?

My folks stuck to chicken, beef and pork. And so now I'm not really curious about trying snake soup, insects, or Peking Dog. I'm wondering about my Chinese cousins out there - will you try just about anything?

I'm only repeating a statement from my Chinese grandmother, so don't get so wound up!! Some of us do, and some of us don't. I'm asking which are you?

There are many poor Chinese who need to do what they can to survive. Also, we have a long rich history of experimenting with natural remedies. Only "GOD" seems to be aware of this. Shame on us it takes a non-Chinese to inform us!

I am not Chinese.....but honestly I prefer the Shanghai dog to the Peking dog..........
As in Rome or as in Shanghai......do what people do ! And sure I can believe in that ying-yang balance and the five tastes of food : sweet, bitter, sour, hot and salty and all the herbs.

I think I will have steam fish which is "cooling" with some lizi to give me energy as well instead of deep fried fish which is "heating" today........

But I might have a change of apricot (heart) later one depending on what my lotus fruit (ears) will be enduring....:-).

Hope I won't have to resort to the "drunken shrimp" menu and have "un canard de Beijing" :-)

PS: the Chinese endured great and very long famines...sometimes you have to eat what you have to eat..dog, rat.....anything !

First of all, I highly dislike certain ignorant people out there who stereotype Chinese and say that we are all the same.

But no, I personally would not try just anything. Most of my Chinese relatives who live in China feel the same way. It's just that in select places in Canton, restaurants are attempting to create "new and unique" dishes, so odd ingredients are used. Also, old traditions say that rare foods (such as snake) are supposed to be good for you, probably just because of the fact that they are rare.

And during China's long history of famines (like the one during the Cultural Revolution, for example) people didn't have anything to eat. It was either starve or eat the dog.

My aunt Chris isn't Chinese but she is Asian. She told me they used to raise dogs & goats like chicken. Then when they got big enough to feed the whole family (usually about 12-13 members) they would slaughter & gut the dog or sheep... stuff it's belly with short grain rice & roast it over a fire pit. When the meat was done they would cut open the belly & eat the rice... and the meat of course. Yikes... true story.

no big deal
I just dropped my vibrator in the won ton soup the next week I was there to eat and wow did the party get started!

That's not a stupid question...I've heard they eat dogs and cats, etc...in fact, there are some Chinese restaurants in my area who have been busted for serving them as chicken!! I'm interested in hearing a Chinese person's point of view! ...and I'm not steriotyping, just curious. :-)

if you're not curious, why bother asking the question? stick with your own kind. by the way, you're rude for classifying individuals like that.
