What are the best medium or small breed puppies that are quiet and good with children?

It realy depends on the children more so than the dog such as the age group of the children if you have kids in diapers do not go with tiny dogs such as yorkies or rat terriers or jack russells for they are more tempermental and are also easier to be hurt by small children unknowingly a beagle or basset or your spanial group are a much better choice much more forgiving its as if this size dog realizes it was an accident

shih-tzu's, they are good with kids of all ages. the best part is full grown mine only weigh 11 pounds, so they are nicely small but the best part is that they are not yappy small dogs you know how some small dogs bark and make your ears bleed the shih-tzu's are not like that. the care the dog needs depends on you preference if you keep it long haired it will need to be brushed daily if you have it groomed regularly then you will have no problems just make sure your groomer plucks the ear hair or they get ear infections from the water getting on their ears and then into the ear canal.
Another nice thing about the shih-tzu breed is that they are non allergy causing dogs, so dog dandur suffers have no problems with the shis-tzu's

Lab are larger size dogs but have good gentle personalities and are excellent with kids. They weigh 60 to 100 pounds. A slightly smaller breed is the greyhound they are a little hyper but they are both good dogs with kids. Both the lab and the greyhound are very protective of adults and kids. Both are very intelligent dogs.

beagle or basset hound. Shitzus are great dogs too. Avoid small dogs like rat terriers and Chihuahuas, some are really great BUT most are not quiet.... Good luck finding a new pet.

I have had several breeds, and the best, by far is the PUG. They are sweet, never need to get a trim, hardly shed, do great indoor and outdoor and are very affectionate.

Boxers are a medium sized dog and are also the #1 family dog.......and known to be extremely protective of children.

I am a Bichon Frise who loves my kids! Mom thinks I am great because I don't shed, weigh under 10 pounds and make little messes! Little kids can take me for walks because I dont pull too hard! From Maycie

really and truly- i think most small breeds are nervous around kids. i think they sense DANGER . a beagle is a medium size dog that can be great with kids
