It's bad enough that they have this bad habit why do they have to further pollute the environment?!

Because they see others do it. If there is trash on the sidewalk, you are much more likely to litter than if it was spotless.
Doesn't make it right, it looks bad and someone is going to have to pick up the spit soaked paper sooner or later.

Why do smokers think they have the right to toss butts wherever?
- trash cans arent always avaliable.
- its convienient.
- it becomes a habit like smoking itself.
- its very easy not to get caught.
- some smokers do not tend to really care where it goes.
- its normally in an urban environment with a sparse animal life population (if you're worried about something coming along and eating it).
in your opinion its a bad habit, but i bet if you were actually a smoker you'd see it from a different perspective. now wheres my lighter...

Many argue that birds use the filters for nest making. However, as a smoker I would say that they don't have that right and they shouldn't assume that they do. I throw mine away and if I'm not near a trash can, I put the butt in my pocket until I am near one.

I agree with you - it's a filthy habit. In Singapore if you toss a butt away, you can be fined. Perhaps other countries should follow this example.

I suspect that a person who is willing to pollute their body would have very little concern for the environment or other people's bodies.

Not all smokers do that. I use an ashtray. If there isn't an ashtray, then I butt out the cigarette and put it in my cigarette pack until I can throw it in a trash can.

they do it because it's just most convenient. Just like littering, they should go toss there butts where they should be. There is no point in harming our enviroment for stupid smokers.

I never do that I put it out and drop it in my cigarette box. I know I do see butts around, but they are usually people LOL I know people do, do it, but not everyone. That actually irritates me also!

It does bug me too! Same with the gum chewers, why can't they put their gums in the trash when they are finished with it?
