I think that is fine. Just make sure you stay on a healthy diet even on your day off. It is not just exercising. There are lots of foods you can eat that help burn calories.

Other responses are right. You are suppose to combine strength training, toning, and cardio into your routine, and you should only be exercising 5 days a week at the max. If you want to take a walk on the off days, not a powerwalk but a nice 45 minure brisk walk, that is okay if you feel a need to get up and move. Your muscles are "tearing" in a sense when you do weights and when you do resistance training (such as your eliptical on a higher resistance setting, not the fast as you can go workout), and you need to allow those muscles to recooperate after the workout. When you do cardio, you cannot do the same routine each time, you have to occasionally change it, because when your body becomes used to one activity, it will not longer achieve the burn you need; you have to increase resistance, length of time, or add in another component.

I do cardio five times a week: three days a week I swim for 1/2 hour, with two of those days followed by 20 minutes on the eliptical. The other two days I do row, which combines strength training and a light cardio. Once a week I will push myself and either swim for 45 minutes or do a 45 minute eliptical.

I don't know if you are at home or at a gym (you sound like you're at home) but another great way to combine exercise is to add in a trampoline (the small ones for workout) that you can use in your backyard and get fresh air at the same time.

You have to also change your diet, and don't be frustrated by the scale. When you start any exercise program, you will not see immediate results, but the scale may actually show an increase in weight. You are building muscle, which weighs more than fat, as well retaining water to hydrate your body for your workout, BUT when determining weight change, go by how your clothes are fitting, not the scale. Give it two weeks minimum to see a change. And don't overeat on the days that are considered your "off" days .... it's not worth it!
Good luck, hope this helps!!

First, you have to determine the reason you exercise so much. If it is to control weight gain, then only enough excercise is needed per day to epend your energy intake (metabolism) If it is to tone the body, then taking a day or more off each week, should not have advers effects on your exercise regime. If it is to improve your stamina, then exercising so much without appropriate guidance could be detrimental and taking *time out* wouldn't make too much a difference.

Even the military doesn't work out seven days a week.
some simple stretching on your "day off" will help keep you limber. You muscles need to rest sometime. Extreme exercise can cause tiny lesions in the muscle that need time to heal. You run the risk of over working them if not careful

You're doing way too much cardio. Try doing half an hour, two to three times a week, and start lifting weights to tone and for endurance, two to three times a week. Eat six small, healthy meals a day - and drink a lot of water.

You should be taking every other day off, or at least exercising different muscles. Too much exercise without giving the muscles a chance to recoup can be harmful to you as well.

You shouldn't overwork yourself.
Take it easy for at least one day, but don't get too comfortable.
Losing weight is all about self-disipline. You must think of your limits in mind and body.
For example, you might think you can go for 17 hours exercising, but your body simply cannot. It's all a matter of you biomakeup.

You need a day off for your body to recover, this is a smart thing to do. In fact, don't schedule the day off...take it one day during every week when you feel like you need it the most. Your body is telling you that it's tired and needs a break.

Yes. Most experts recommend you take at least 2 days off in a week.

Remember that losing weight is more than just exercising. In order to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you take in. But, you can over do it as well. You should talk to a nutrionist and/or trainer.
