Ive seen it happen all too many times where these people say 'its in the bible' when explaining their hatred towards gays and minorities?

There is no hatred. Only a hate mind see's it this way.

If I am not wrong...you asked this question in regards to a religious perspective. duh
If you want to ask me with no religious thought involved, I can do that also. Probably in a better way, than what you may come to a better understanding even.

Because they don't want to lose the argument. The Bible (at least in Europe and the US) is the ultimate supporter. If you can find a verse in the Bible that looks loosely related to your contention, it's like you're telling those that oppose your beliefs that GOD himself has taken your side, which not only makes them automatically wrong, buy it also automatically makes them blasphemers and heretics that deserve to roast for the rest of Eternity.
With hateful people, it's not enough that they win an argument, they have to do some serious damage in the process.

Because they weren't taught the Bible. They were taught certain things and were TOLD that it's in the Bible and that if they don't believe, they are hell-bound. So many times, people have stepped up to the plate, read the Bible for themselves and realized what the Bible says, what it doesn't say and how it was written (in what context, what language translations have done to it, etc.)

Its a great deception that people do this. The message of the bible is grace and love for all, especially sinners (which is everyone). People just use small parts (often out of context) to justify their evil behavior.

Because without it, they haven't a leg to stand on. They'd have to face the reality of the world around us, and accept death and THE END.
They also use the bible because they wouldn't be caught dead thinking for themselves.
They hate what they do not understand and what is not correctly explained in their most precious of books.

It's a blend of both old and new testament. People use their own interpretation of the bible to slam others to accepting their standard Rather than bend down and help people who are in sin and point them to their Heavenly father.

For the same reason most loving people do. People tend to take only portions of Biblical text to make it justify their actions. Jesus had plainly said, "All are welcome at my table." It does not say that there are exceptions to that. Everyone is created of his image. The bottom line is hatred is wrong, violence is wrong and Loving is right.

They don't, that's just you opinion. Why do non belivers continue to throw bible scriptures at us Christians when they dont' believe in the word of God. I'm surpriised the bible doesnt' burn their ungoddly hands.

Because they are misguided and misusing the teachings.
It's comparable to people who use the Quran to fuel hatred.
That was not the original intention, from what I understand...
