I'm pretty sure it's due to how you were raised. I was raised in a pagan family, thus my being pagan. My friend was raised in a Catholic family, thus her being Catholic.

I think we are pretty much born into a religion, until we are old enough to make our own choices,we believe what we grew up with.Which in itself is not a bad thing. At least you grow up believing in a supreme being. And all religions teach the good and the bad the right and the wrong, which i think is a very important part in growing up and into a good person, the name of the faith in which you believe in, is, i think a very miscues part.

I think children are raised to believe whatever the parents believe. However, growing up, my parents didn't ever take me to church, or tell me to be Baptist. I just knew that my parents were believers. I made the decision to become a Christian on my own. And even if they had taken me to church. Only I could have made the decision to accept the Lord.

Mine is because it is true. I didn't grow up in a Christian home but I became a Christian. I was influenced by my grandmothers though, two fine Christian women. I would like to become as gentlewomen as they were.

Each person is different. It seems to me that most people go with the norm and influences in their area. But there are people (like me) who seek their own truth. Religion to me is an individual's personal journey of faith. My personal choice just so happens to not fit the norm for my area, but it is my truth.

Initially it is influence. Your parents take you to their church. At some point, one should consider his own spiritual needs, and do some research. Eventually, he will find a "truth" (remeber everyone has their own) he can live with, or get teh support he is seeking. Good question!
