Sorry, your facts are well, wrong. Bush did not desert the military. While his national guard service was not stellar, he served until released. Dan Rather retired, he was not fired:

On September 20, 2004, he made a televised apology for the CBS News failing to verify the authenticity of questionably documents used in support of a "60 Minutes II" (1999) story about President George W. Bush's military record in the Texas Air National Guard. A two-person investigative panel formed by CBS said that a "myopic zeal" on the part of the CBS News to break the story, which the panel found to be be neither fair nor accurate and did not meet the organization's internal standards. As a result of the panel's findings, CBS fired four CBS News employees, including three executives. Although the panel placed no specific blame on him, the incident damaged his credibility and was believed to have led to the announcement of his retirement as anchor of the "CBS Evening News".

Bush never deserted the Texas Air National Guard. It's a myth the Democratic party propagated to undermine his presidency. The Democratic party hoped by disseminating this lie, that they would regain some lost ground over the Republicans. The Dems are a lost cause and an overall pitiful bunch of people.

That what happens when you report blatant lies. Rather used a memo of a General that had retired 18 months before the supposed evidence was put on memo. The NY Times & George Magazine both concluded that all required time was served & no desertion ever happened except in the twisted minds of liars.

Oh Good Grief! That DIDN'T happen! Bush DIDN'T desert from the military. Dan Rather didn't report any such thing. And he wasn't fired. It was simply "time for him to go". He's an old guy....he needs to be out fishing with the grandkids anyway.

Bush did not desert.By UCMJ standards to desert means you left during a time of war and never came back. He just didn't attend a bunch of drills according to records.
So he wasn't a stellar soldier. Is anyone REALLY that surprised that the rich boy screwed off when he was young?

Because it never happened.

You (just like Mr. Rather) got taken in by a transparent hoax.

I knew that letter was bogus the first time I read it. (The writing style and formatting were as per standards that were introduced over a decade after the incident supposedly occurred.)

Pity you do not seem to be smart enough to be able to separate fact from fiction.
