Sarah H. - the sad fact is the rich have an oath also it goes like this - "Since there are many possible qualities that a prince can be said to possess, he must not be overly concerned about having all the good ones. Although a bad reputation should be avoided, this is not crucial in maintaining power. The only ethic that matters is one that is beneficial to the prince in dealing with the concerns of his state."

This is why thier children don't go, why should someone like yourself go to Iraq and help in the slaughter of thier men, women and children for control of the oil, while the Bush twins laugh at you, get drunk and mock every aspect of our lifestyle, maintaining that they are of different clay, and are of superior make to us "people"?

Its sad, but the truth is this fighting in Iraq isn't for the flag, the country or the people of the US, its not because we were attacked (we weren't) it is simply a complex neo-con experiment, akin to a bank robbery and no honor whatsoever.

It's always like that. Military people are gang members for hire. They are hired, just like in street gangs, by the real masterminds, but typically the members are too young or too poor to care why they are fighting. They probably already have anger issues and use their membership in violent gangs or militias as an excuse to harm other people with cause.

It's been this way for a long time. Because there's no longer a draft, the people who volunteer are either super patriotic or can't find or keep a job anyplace else. I'm old enough to remember the draft during Vietnam. Everyone was registered and they had a lottery system. It didn't take long before people wanted the war to end because rich and poor alike were getting killed and wounded unless you could find a way out like Cheney and George Bush did. Money and power were able to keep the powerful, influential children off the front lines.

Since when are the Iraqi military rich? All of the protestors that I talk to seem to be telling me that it is the Iraqi people's war.. ell. that being the case, and you say that it is a rich person's war, then, I agree... as the Iraqi people are so rich and well off, and as they have obviously always been scuh, then I guess we should just pull out and leave them to it. It worked with the Vietnamese, after all.
Oh, wait... I made a mistake. The American military personnel who are over there are fighting for the guys laying in the dirt next to them. As the poor people are fighting for the rich, and the rich are lying in the dirt with them, then that would make the American military rich, and it would- in turn- make the rich people fighting this war.

Sorry... I guess that means that your questions is no longer valid.
Thanks for the 2 points anyhow.

It is a damn volunteer military so no one should complain about being in it. If you joined to get something and expected not to fight then you are a moron. The purpose of a military is to fight, regardless of why we are fighting. I am proud to serve, and I look forward to being deployed back to the war again. I hate when ignorant civilians complain about the military, the war, and the govenment, but your welcome for the freedom of speech you have by the efforts of better men and women before you.

As far as the college money crap it's a stupid reason to join and a sad excuse to complain. I put myself through college by working 2 jobs as a full time student and supporting myself. I got my degree without a single loan or a penny from anyone else. I joined the Army before 9/11, but I'm damn proud to be in it now and thankful to be able to fight (I am in the infantry, not support) in this war against terrorism. I wish the cowards in our military never signed up in the first place, we would be even more bad *** than we are now.

Ha.I can SO answer this one.

As a soldier, it does not matter if you like the reason behind a combat scenario. As an officer, like myself, you have taken an oath to protect this country and the soldiers under your protection. So when your highers say "We're going here to get shot at", you do not get to question why.
I went because seven soldiers' families were relying on me to bring their children home in one piece. I could only do that IF I went there and did my job. If you don't do your job over there people die.
Politics play no part in the actual execution of war. The survival of yourself and others is what is REALLY crucial.

I will tell you why poorer people fight and richer people don't. As a kid growing up in rural America a lot of my friends enlisted in the military cause they either did not want to go to college or it was the only way they could pay for college, but that was during the Clinton administration. And plus your military recruiters hit poorer communities and rural communities harder than your upper class communities

Because we are beign lied to. We are beign promised money for college if we joined the military yet we never see that money. Its all lies so that the government could get what they want, int this case poor people fighting a senseless war.
