i once asked a Jewish scholar why they believed that Jews are the chosen people. he responded that the full phrase is that Jews are the chosen people to teach the word of God. Is this correct? Or is the conventional wisdom that Jews are God's favorite people the truth.? Seriously want to know. Thank you

God chose us to be a holy people (separate, apart). His people would not do certain things other peoples do.
His people would not worship any other God.
His people could continue to make sacrifices like other peoples, but NEVER a human sacrifice.
His people would not murder.
His people would not judge without written laws that apply to all -- including the leaders -- and appointed judges to determine guilt.

and so it goes on and on for 613 laws.

In other words His people were, and still are, the dissenting voice when the majority has gone awry. Where was the dissenting voice during the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Holocaust?

Why would anyone want to be God's holy (separate/apart) people?

I am not Jewish but the Torah is the Christian Old Testament. Jews simply don't believe the New Testament. The Old testament and the bible states that God told Abaraham that he would be the father of a great nation. Abraham believed. This is where it starts. God had twelve (jewish) tribes that came from Abraham each were assigned specific tasks. The Levites were holy men responsible for the word of God as well as any temple duties.
I was trying to answer a few questions mentioned in previous postings. If you want more answers read and study your bible...

Additionally, God knew that the Jews wouldn't be able to keep the commands that He gave them (hence the last chapters of the old testament), this is where Gentiles come in. He made a way, thru Christ to accept every non Jew (into the family) if they believed that Christ died for their sins. Hence the term grafted in that Paul talks about in Romans and Ephesians.

Sorry, I'm not a Jew. They are the chosen people of God. They are very special to Him. But through Jesus, everyone was included . But even then, I think God still has something special for the Jewish people.

The Jews did nothing in the bible but try to sever the blood line of God and in a word they were the ones that sent Jesus to be crucified and they still don't believe he is the son of God. So exactly what part of them was chosen for what?

The Jew is the wife of god mentioned in the old testament, but they initially rejected the offering of the kingdom, so it was offered to the gentiles in the form of a new covenant of God sealed by the redemptive blood of Christ. Hence making people born again and a relationship between you and God has been restored.

"Chosen" just means that Jews have more responsibility in the world than non-Jews, that is, to perform all 613 commandants.

Gentiles are only required to uphold the 7 commandments of the covenant God made with Noah (the Noahide Laws).

Read your Bible, then you will know they are God's Chosen ppl, though they reject Jesus as being the True Messiah--well...except for the Messianic Jews. They know the Truth.
