If you are thinking of coming into the criminal justice field--in which probation falls under--there are a number of classes that you will be taking!
What I would suggest you doing is speaking with your advisor at your school!
Basically you will need all of the criminal justice courses that will introduce you to the criminal justice system--then you will take psychology courses that help you to deal with the probationers and their problems---etc. etc. etc.
There so many different courses that you will have to take in order to become a p.o.The best thing is to major in criminal justice and then minor in some thype of psychology field or juvenile behavior!

Check with the probation department in the community where you intend on working and inquire about the courses you will be taking.
Check with the college where you intend on going and ask that particular college if the curriculum you will be taking fits into your future plans.
Keep your options open as to probation, parole, police officer, federal agent, attorney generals office, etc., by taking as wide a range of studies as possible.
There are advancement or promotion examinations offered in many departments in law enforcement. You can pick up that promotional book (exams) at a local book store.
Look at the exams being offered in those books on past promotional exams and see what topics are stressed.
Forensic medicine should be included in your curriculum, even if you choose to take it as an elective minor.
Computer studies and networking should be standard in your studies.
And, of course, good luck.
