but along the lines of nada surf, be your own pet, the yeah yeah yeahs, the like. does anyone know a band called "spot" - they had a nice little song on an old vans warped tour disc called "moon joon spoon." also if anyone can recommend something equally good as weezer in the times of the buddy holly and the sweater song. i like the hives, strokes, white stripes and odd single tracks of the vines ("ride"), new bomb turks ("jukebox lean"), arctic monkeys.. can anyone recommend me anything along lines of jesus&mary chain, bauhaus. i also especially like the pixies, ramones and the oppressed sound. also peach, fugazi, scissorfight and psychic tv. anything rock, gothic, punk, industrial, but please dont recommend me cheesy bands - something loud and energetic with tight ensemble and drive, and some musical complexity and innovation. not poppy sounding voices and lyrics either - something either dark or wild if its fun not serious. any suggestions for bands i should seek out?

thank u all. i already know xray spex, rhcp, arctic monkeys, skinny puppy(i'm seeking a specific track where the singer keeps saying something like "keep dreaming" and then a warbled, nightmarish effect) - also am looking 4 a track thats either of theirs, nitzer ebb or psychictv w/the repeat sampling of a growling dog/ anyway yes thanks, i already am familiar w/ psych furs, j adicts, stiff lilfingers, i know them. if you can recommend specific, esp. energetic tracks w/great distortions, i dont know rancid or killers extensively but dont feel drawn to their musical style from what i know. recommedations of specific exemplary songs would help if u can think of any 2 tell me. i checked some dropkick - found one thing, some mity mouse, didnt find yet(something that i like),some transplants and checked a handful of ny dolls but still havent found exactly what i'm looking for.sometimes i need a specific song to get me sold on a band - or into. ps i dont like new rhcp.any bahuhaus/curestyle bands

There have already been many good answers, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Refused.

Refused sound like they would meet your criteria. They have a tight sound, complex rhythms, and very energetic/loud songs.

Check out the CD "Shape of Punk to Come"

Here's my advice:

You like the White Stripes, try the Black Keys
Arctic Monkeys, try the Libertines and Baby Shambles
Fugazi, try Modest Mouse

You can't go wrong checking out old school bands. I really dig early Stiff Little Fingers and The Adicts. Kinda popy sounding but this stuff was done in the 70's and it was way hardcore back then. Other old school punk bands worth checking out are The Dead Boys, 7 Seconds, Black Flag, Social D, TSOL, The New York Dolls and The Misfits. It's fun listening to this stuff as you can hear them in the new bands coming out today. You can never go wrong with the Clash one of the most influential punk bands of all time. Rancid was heavily infuenced by the Clash and I think they stand up well against the bubblegum bands of today. Tim Armstrongs (of Rancid) first band was Operation Ivy, I think they are one of the most significant bands of our day. He has also branched out with The Transplants and I'm really diggin' them right now, very different.

There's too much good music out there. Good look in your search.

try tsunami bomb, the dropkick murphys, rancid is always fun...the killers have that edgy 80's sound and can get pretty dark.and there is always the vandals and t.s.o.l., try both bands really early stuff. old x-ray spex and the rezillos are great too!
