The Bible is human words about God, not God's word to human beings. It was written and compiled by thousands of people over a period of many centuries. It contains a lot of wisdom, and a lot of errors, both factual and moral. Do you really think that if "God is Love" (1 John 4:8), God would command the Israelites to commit genocide against the Amalekites (1 Samuel 15:3) -- telling them explicitly to kill all the women and children? Don't subject your conscience to an ancient text! Believe, but believe freely and openly. It's not all or nothing. Whatever any authority tells you, you have to test against your conscience and decide for yourself if what it's telling you is true (1 Thessalonians 5:21). God didn't make us as robots -- he gave us free hearts and minds. So if God gave it to you, use it -- don't sacrifice it at the altar of "inerrancy" or "infallibility."

Now the verse isn't being literal.ok. But it does say that adultry is a sin in gods eyes. most of the things in the bible are not literal but symbolic. and yes there are several things in the bible that you should take heed to. and also the ten commandments just doesn't cut it.

wow, thats a really big question...it all depends on how u interpret it. Some laws in the bible are no longer applicable to todays Christians...some things, like music choice, aren't really mentioned in the Bible. I am a WELS Christian, and I personally believe that we should follow all of Our Lord's laws, unless He has said otherwise.

That passage of the bible is found in the Old Testament and part of "The Law" given to Moses for God's covenant people (The Jews) to live and abide by. However, with the coming of the Jesus Christ, the messiah, the gentiles (people who beleived in God but unfortunately weren't born Jewish) were given a higher law that superceded the old law of Moses and opened the gates for all to receive the grace of God.... that law being to "Love the Lord thy God," and "Love thy neighbor as thyself."

If you are going to be a christian, the most important advice for you to follow out of the Bible is just that... the Law of Moses was fulfilled in Christ's death and by accepting Jesus as your savior, you are not bound to follow the Law of Moses to the letter because his law is higher... so the passages about sacrificing animals, not eating shellfish, not working on the Sabbath, being kosher, etc... are not necessesarily void or nullified to this day, but we are no longer REQUIRED to do anything but beleive in Jesus Christ and live his gospel to return to our father in heaven.

Alot of the bible is metephorical. I mean really was Sampsons strengh all in his hair? Or did Jona really live in the belly of a large fish? Don't look at it literally, read betwen the lines. And there the truth lies.

wow..strong stuff there. I think it's your opinion on how you want your religion to be like, you choose it's your life after all. I try to follow the bible as best as i can, but i can't say i agree with all of it. Such as how animals have no souls. I believe they do. I believe they go to heaven just like humans. after all, animal's souls are the purest of them all.

Basically it says if you have sex with animals you should be killed and its your own fault. No one can be charged with your murder. Because its not murder, its judgment. Its just my opinion that you shouldn't have sex with animals. I love animals but really! It is my preference to lay down with the same species and opposite gender. But that's just me, maybe I'm just a bird of a different feather.

You should not follow any book, media, or authority just because they tell you to. You should make up your own mind, and if your ideas match, the ones you see, hear, or are told, then you should obey those rules or ideas; because you agree, not because you were told to.
