I read a formula once which said you should drink 1/2 oz. of water for each pound of your body weight. It made no differential for temperature.

Another formula I read suggested doing 3 flushes daily. Drink 8 oz. 4 times over 30 minutes (10 minutes apart) first thing in the morning. Work your way up to it (1 glass first day, 2 glasses 2nd day, etc.) and don't do it unless you are going to be at home for about 2 hours, because your body will begin eliminating the water in about 30 minutes every 15 minutes. After 2 hours you should be good to be away from the bathroom for 1-2 hours. Repeat this flush procedure mid-day. Do the same thing early evening, but over 60 minutes (20 minutes apart) and not too close to bedtime or you will have disturbed sleep. You may have to get up once during the night.

Even if you just do the morning flush and sip from a bottle of water the rest of the day, it helps with regular bowel movements.

The correct answer is 8 eight oz. glasses per day, given a normal median temperature and physical activity is minimal. If you work outside like I do, and the job is labor intensive, you could drink as much as 1 1/2 gallon a day. I drink about a gallon at work from 6am to 5pm, and a few glasses at home afterwards

I've been told it's like 2 litres, but that's the size of an average coke bottle or something. I tried it once though I drank 6 tall glasses and I was peeing all day!
And 40 degrees C is awful hot, where are you?

Please please please people, we are the product of hundreds of millions of years of evolution, we would have died out a very long time ago if our bodies weren't able to closely regulate water balance and make us aware that we need to drink - it's called thirst!!!! Prehistoric humans didn't have fitness trainers and diet gurus telling them how many glasses of water to drink a day, they just drank when they were thirsty. And you may have noticed that when it's hot or we exercise more, we get more thirsty!! How clever!!! And even if you can't rush off to the nearest tap, your body has lots of clever ways of saving water.

Really, just drink when you're thirsty. Don't waste your money on branded bottles of water otherwise you'll just end up with expensive p***.

There are people here saying you should drink 2 litles a day!! Rubbish, you would make yourself ill. Look up "psychogenic polydipsia" - a growing problem.

By the way, 40 degrees Celsius is very hot in most parts of the world.

The International Sports Medicine Institute recommends daily water intake of 1/2 ounce per pound of body weight. Proper hydration is essential because the body is comprised of about 60% water and blood plasma is over 90% water!

Normal, 40? you poor buggerr. It was a lovely 23 in London today and I had about 2 litres of water, though most of that was in cups of tea. I had 3 pints of lager as well. And a tub of icecream. Ah, life is indeed sweet!
