He has them contained in a run by the Fence. The odor of poop effects our use of the back yard and we can't keep our bedroom window open nightly! The Town claims they are powerless to act, since there are no laws regarding this! Constructively speaking, I am looking for an answer to this problem that affects our quality of life! I don't want to cause harm to the animals because it's not their fault, who can come up with a clever idea that would want the owner to move his dogs closer to his house!

Whoever has the best answer to this complex problem will get the strongest reccomendation to win with Yahoo!!

My suggestions: Invite your neighbors over for lunch, or out on a picnic, and tell them your concerns. Ask them what they would do in your situation. Try to make it as friendly and non-combative as possible.

Plant hedges along the fence, or better yet, flowers bushes. The hedge alone would deflect a lot of the odor. Night-blooming jasmine grows around my bedroom window. It's delicious.

Get an air purifier to use near your bed. That would help a lot.

Put a fan in or near your window, blowing out. Spray Arm & Hammer's air freshener around your window.

Last but not least, be glad you have five dogs nearby to help protect your property. You'll never know, but their presence may have saved your family from burglaries, rape, even murder.

You sound like a patient person. Just give a little, compromise where you can. And good luck.

Plant some plants by the fence on your side. Tell the dogs' owner that, although you mean no harm, the plants you've planted could poison the dogs if they were to come near the fence and eat them. Offer to help move the dog run away from the fence.

OR

See if they would be willing to have a neighbor kid, or your own kid to pick up the poop daily or every two days. If you have a kid this would work nicely. Most people would be willing to pay a small fee for this, and if they won't, offer to front the cost yourself. If nothing works, wait until they leave for work and pick it yourself.

Put moth balls along your side of the fence, not close enough for the dogs to get at them and eat them or anything. The dogs won't like the smell and will avoid pooping near that side of the yard, it may not totally help you, but at least the odor will be further away. Plus, at the very least your annoying neighbor will have to put up with the moth ball smell himself!!! LOL

I don't think there is anything you can do. As long as the dogs are on his property and the poo is in his yard, you are pretty powerless. The only thing that I could suggest would be to politely ask your neighbor to move his dog run, but I have a feeling if it were that simple you wouldn't be asking.

If the poop is directly on the fence line - and if it's chain link - you can spread lime over it. I say that because that will you won't have to go onto the owners property. The lime will help the smell and help the poop break down faster. You can get lime from any garden store.

Call animal control and report it, tell them you feel it is a health issue, they will come over or send them a warning, and if it continues they will give them a citation. I had that problem before, so I would think most towns or counties in America do this.
Good Luck especially with the hot weather!

Plant fragrant flowering bushes by your bedroom window. I would also reccomend sparying this stay away stuff you can get at PetSmart that if you spary it, the dogs wont want ot pee or poop there. Spray it on your side of the fence everyday and see if they start pooping someplace else.

Start taking dumps by the fence too. Seriously, he needs to be talked to. It's unfair that you are unable to enjoy your home and yard that you have worked hard for. You can also set off some stink bombs. They are harmless, but smell super awful! Maybe once he smells something as bad as you have to, he will change his act.

Have sprinklers along the fence to keep the dogs away from the fence.

Ask a few lawyers. His odors are disturbing your piece of mind. What happens when pollutants from a factory make a neighborhood stink?
