that all depends on what you are planning to do...

if you are planning on shopping, the nearest mall is about 30-45 min away (depending on traffic).

if you are planning on checking out honolulu's night life, honolulu/waikiki, which is where all of the clubs, bars and touristy things are, is about 60-90 minutes away (again, depending on traffic).

however, if you are planning on sitting back and relaxing, the north shore is definitely the place to be. it not only offers some of the most amazing beaches in the world, but it offers a chance for you to trully experience hawaiian culture in its entirety. the following is a list of things there is to do up at the north shore:

1) historical haleiwa town - a town that is modeled to look exactly the same as it did in the early 1900s. when you're there, be sure to pick up a nice, refreshing shave ice treat from the world reknowned matsumoto shave ice store.
2) a variety of different beaches - waiamea bay, sunset beach, pipeline, etc.
6) surfing, sailing, jet skiing, scuba diving, and sky diving packages are also available
3) waiamea falls park
4) polynesian culture center
5) many restraunts, offering anything from traditional american foods and local foods

grocery stores, starbucks, mcdonalds, and gas stations are among the many familiar amenities that the north shore has to offer.

hope this helps. wherever you chose to stay, i'm sure you'll find your vacation equally satisfying.

Not really, you're about 90 minutes plus or minus 15 minutes (depending on traffic) away from Honolulu whether you take I-83 to H-3 or I-83 to I-99 to H-2 into Honolulu. Nice scenic drive in either direction. Add another 45 minutes if you plan to head out towards Ko'Olina on the leeward side.
Drive safe and buckle up brah! The life you save may be mine :o)
Aloha

Nah but you would be pretty much in the country near some beautiful beaches, besides there is Haleiwa near by there is grocery stores there. Its pretty much depends on the traffic to thats out there. But you'd pick a great spot to vacation at tho. Have Fun and Be Safe.

No, you will be staying on the good side of the island. There are small towns and stores up that way for groceries and gasoline and deserted beaches too. Its not a long drive if you want to go to Waikiki /Honolulu. You will enjoy it.
