Please, please , please, do lots of research on the breed before getting one!!

Chi's can be wonderful pets. and I know it's the going "in" thing, but they can be a real pain in the rear, too!!

Chi's are notoriously bad for maintaining housebreaking, especially as they get older (and they live to be 15-18 years old). They also can have a lot of tooth loss problems, and frequently don't like anyone or anything but their owner. This may seem "cute", but it can become a real problem at times.

In regards to their long life ... what do you have planned for you future? Think of all the changes that can happen in 15 years, and will there always be a place for your dog in it?

Also, in regards to the very tiny (under 4 lbs) they can have specific health problems, so study up on that as well.

If you decide that a chihuahua is for you, then go for it. The above answeres had good suggestions on how to find one.

They are wonderfully loyal and sweet dogs if you are "owned" by one.

Try as breed rescue or petfinder.com. And I commend you on wanting to adopt. Make sure you understand the breed before diving in, though as you should not get a dog simply as an accessory. : )

I'll come back and update my links. : )
