I am 16, when I was 14, I got working papers, NY State Law requires I get a new one, now that I am 16. However, school is out, so I can't get a new one until Sept. I want to get a job over the summer. Can I use my working papers that are expired or do I have to wait until Sept.???

At sixteen, in many states, at least, you may not NEED working papers.

I don't think you need working papers at 16. I lived in NY when I was in HS and I got my first job at 16 and never had to get working papers. At any rate, even if you do need them now at 16, I'm pretty sure you only need them for working during the school year. Summer should be exempt, since there's no school. In any case, look up the State of NY Child Labor Laws and you should be able to find your answer! Good luck!

Do you mean your employer would be a 13-14 year old or you are trying to get a 13-14 year old a job?

In either case - call the Department of Labor in your state. They will know the labor laws. You can get the number out of the phone book or go to superpages.com. Or do a google search and see if it says something on the their web site. Be sure you are at the site for YOUR States Department of Labor and not another States or the Federal.

If you are sixteen, why do you want to use working papers for a 13-14 year old? Are they your papers, or do they belong to someone else? In most places, a 16-year old doesn't need working papers, but if they are necessary where you are, why not simply get them? I'm really not sure I understand your question.
