10 years ago i was about 5 yrs old i was outside playing in the garden when all of a sudden a great big spider crawled up on my back it was massive it was about a meter wide as it jumped off me and landed on my slide. it was green in the middle and had really long legs about 25cm long.I never realised you can get such big spiders in Britain

Are you sure it wasn't an insect of some type, like a stick insect or even a dragon fly? They can grow quite large sometimes. Either that or some bast@rd was playing a sick joke on you.....!
see the site below - there are some HUGE stick insects on there!!

Have you ever gone back to visit places you knew as a kid and found them smaller than you remember? We don't get 3 feet wide spiders in Britain, I'm guessing you saw a full grown House spider and your memory is playing tricks.

I had dreams like that when I was five. Be assured there are no spiders anywhere in the World of the size you mention. As a five year old your back would hardly be a metre wide!

Uhmmm,I think you should stop drinking your bath water...plus give a slightly better desription of the arachnid next time...
