Flirting would probably be the best way. Show him you have a romantic interest in him by both flirting and hanging out just the two of you. With guys you can't be subtle, you have to be very direct so maybe even just telling him straight out (if you can) would be good.

Find a reason to be around them more, and while you're around them , be more friendly to them. Act interested in what they have to say, and find out what they like to do. Once you know them well, invite them to go with you, to do whatever they like to do, ie, music concert, ball game, etc. If they accept, you're taking to the next level with them. Best of luck!
