because most cats r still hunter at heart. so they like to go out side and explore and look for mice and other stuff like that.

They enjoy being free and it is just their natural instinct to be outside chasing small animals, being free, and roaming around. It has to do with their past. If they are stuck inside a lot, though, they want to be outside to see what its like. It is just natural.

my cats roam all over the mountain i live on and if i go hiking they follow me- darting around , climbing trees as tho they are lookouts. i noticed one day that one spotted a snake and was not allowing me to walk over it. so not only do cats hunt but they protect as well.
